Phillies win Game 1 of World Series


The Philadelphia Phillies came back from a 5-0 deficit to defeat the Houston Astros 6-5 in Game 1 of the World Series on Friday at Minute Maid Park.

J.T. Realmuto delivered the decisive blow in the 10th inning, hitting a solo homer off Luis Garcia.

Sean Couturier out with back surgery


Philadelphia Flyers center Sean Couturier underwent back revision surgery on Thursday and will miss approximately three-to-four months, the team announced Saturday, according to NHL.com's Adam Kimelman.

This marks Couturier's second back surgery in less than a year after his season-ending procedure in February.

Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen divorce


Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen have filed for divorce after 13 years of marriage, the quarterback announced on Instagram on Friday. 

Brady said the two "arrived at this decision amicably and with gratitude" for the time they spent together.

"We arrived at this decision to end our marriage after much consideration, Brady stated. "Doing so is, of course, painful and difficult, like it is for many people who go through the same thing every day around the world. However, we wish only the best for each other as we pursue whatever new chapters in our lives that are yet to be written."

Aaron Boone plans to return to Yankees


Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner plans to keep Aaron Boone as his manager.

"As far as Boone's concerned, we just signed him and for all the same reasons I listed a year ago, I believe he is a very good manager," Steinbrenner said Wednesday as he left the Yankees player development complex. "I don't see a change there."

Josh Norris may need shoulder surgery


Josh Norris could be out for most of the 2022-23 campaign - if not all of it.

The Ottawa Senators center is expected to miss at least three-to-five months with a shoulder injury suffered Saturday against the Arizona Coyotes, head coach D.J. Smith told reporters, including TSN's Claire Hanna.

Russian court rejects Griner appeal


A Russian court on Tuesday rejected an appeal by U.S. basketball star Brittney Griner of her nine-year prison sentence for drug possession, a step that could move her closer to a possible high-stakes prisoner swap between Moscow and Washington.

The eight-time all-star center with the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and a two-time Olympic gold medalist was convicted Aug. 4 after police said they found vape canisters containing cannabis oil in her luggage at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport.

Marlins sign manager Skip Schumaker


The Miami Marlins hired Skip Schumaker to be their new manager, the club announced Tuesday.

Schumaker was the St. Louis Cardinals' bench coach in 2022. He worked in the San Diego Padres organization in several coaching roles before joining the Cardinals.
