The Chicago White Sox are making strides and splashing waves at the opportunity to become competitive again. They are acquiring right-hander Luis Castillo in a trade with the Seattle Mariners for reliever Seranthony DomÃnguez, outfielder Nolan Jones, and catching prospect Boston Smith.
The White Sox will take on all of Castillo's remaining contract, a source told Alden Gonzalez of ESPN. Here are a few stats for you to nibble on. The 33-year-old is owed around $7.25 million for the rest of 2026, will earn $22.75 million in 2027, and has a $25-million vesting option for 2028 if he accumulates 180 innings.
Yikes, check this out….. Castillo owns a 5.06 ERA with 7.8 K/9 over 99 2/3 innings (17 starts) this season. He's authored a career 3.65 ERA with 1.19 WHIP and 9.4 K/9 with the Mariners and Cincinnati Reds across 10 years.
The three-time All-Star reportedly joins a White Sox rotation that includes breakout starters Davis Martin and Sean Burke.
DomÃnguez posted a 4.10 ERA with 10.8 K/9 and 12 saves over 42 appearances with the White Sox. The right-hander is still owed $10 million next year and has a $2-million buyout on $12-million option for 2028.
Smith was the 15th-ranked prospect in Chicago's minor-league system.
