Jessica Campbell leaving Kraken

Seattle Kraken assistant coach Jessica Campbell won't return to the team next season following the expiration of her contract.

"As Jessica's current contract expires, she has expressed her desire to explore other coaching roles across the league, and we support her in this process," Kraken general manager Jason Botterill said Thursday.

Kevin Durant out for Game 6 vs Lakers

Houston Rockets forward Kevin Durant will not return from injury in time for Friday's Game 6 against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Durant is dealing with a bone bruise in his left ankle and has missed all but one game of the series. Houston has won back-to-back contests after being down 3-0.

The 37-year-old didn't play in Game 1 due to a bruised tendon in his right knee. He returned for Game 2 and dropped 23 points in 41 minutes of action before suffering the ankle injury late in the contest.

Panthers stick with Bryce Young

The Carolina Panthers signed the fifth-year option on quarterback Bryce Young’s rookie contract on Wednesday, keeping the 2023 No. 1 pick with the team through the 2027 season.

General manager Dan Morgan first mentioned on SiriusXM’s “Mad Dog Sports Radio” that he was planning to sign the contract and later confirmed that he had signed the deal.

Don Mattingly will serve as Thomson's interim replacement through the end of the 2026 season after beginning the campaign as bench coach. Mattingly's son, Preston, is the Phillies' general manager.

Damon Jones pleads guilty to NBA gambling

Former NBA player and assistant coach Damon Jones became the first person to plead guilty Tuesday in a gambling sweep that led to the arrests of more than 30 people, including reputed mobsters and other basketball figures.

Jones, 49, entered a guilty plea to a single count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud during the first of back-to-back plea-change hearings in Brooklyn federal court.


McDavid Game 5 - game time decision

Dylan Cease struck out 12 in five innings and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had three hits, including a two-run homer, as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Los Angeles Angels 5-2 on Monday night.

Lenyn Sosa put Toronto ahead with a sacrifice fly in the sixth, and Nathan Lukes knocked in two late insurance runs after coming off the bench.

Cease (1-0) earned his first win for the Blue Jays and finished one strikeout shy of his career high despite needing 110 pitches to get 15 outs. Flyers win Game 1 vs. Penguins

Travis Sanheim scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period and the Philadelphia Flyers announced their return to the playoffs with a 3-2 win over Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night.

Philadelphia pulled off a stunner in the opener when Sanheim split a pair of Penguins at the top of the zone, glided down the slot and then fired the puck by Stuart Skinner. Porter Martone, the Flyers' 19-year-old rookie forward, provided some needed insurance when he beat Skinner on a wrist shot with 2:37 to play.

Wallstedt thrilled to get the Game 1 start

Minnesota Wild rookie goalie Jesper Wallstedt was a little surprised when told he was starting the postseason opener. 

“Obviously I was hoping to play. I wanted to play and I felt like I’d been going good,” Wallstedt said. “A little surprised, but I was very excited as soon as I got the news, and just made sure I was going to be ready.”

Wallstedt certainly was, making 27 saves in his NHL playoffs debut as the Wild beat the Dallas Stars 6-1 in Game 1 of the Western Conference playoffs Saturday.

Lindor believes in the Mets

Lindor still believes in the New York Mets, even though Sunday's extra-innings loss marked their 11th straight defeat.

Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball has been fined $35K and retroactively assessed a flagrant-2 foul for tripping Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo during Charlotte's play-in victory Tuesday.

Adebayo suffered a back injury during the incident, which occurred in the second quarter. He missed the remainder of the contest as a result.

As an off-balance Adebayo attempted to bring down a rebound while standing on one leg near the baseline, Ball used his hand to swipe at the big man's planted foot, sending him crashing to the floor.

Blue Jays land Sosa from White Sox

The Toronto Blue Jays acquired infielder Lenyn Sosa from the Chicago White Sox for minor-league outfielder Jordan Rich and a player to be named later or cash, the clubs announced Monday.

Sosa has gone 7-for-33 with three RBIs over 12 games this season. The 26-year-old went deep 22 times with 75 RBIs and a .727 OPS across 140 contests in 2025.

Rivers leaves Bucs

Doc Rivers will leave the Milwaukee Bucks following his third season in charge of the team.

Rivers went a combined 97-103 after replacing Adrian Griffin as the Bucks' head coach in January 2024. This season, the franchise went 32-50 and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

The Bucks, who signed Rivers to a reported $40 million contract through 2026-27, will pay out the remainder of Rivers' contract and consider an advisory role for the veteran coach, Charania reports.

Rory wins back to back at Augusta

Another heart-stopping Sunday at Augusta National gave way to the same result as last year, with Rory McIlroy winning his second straight Masters in dramatic fashion.

McIlroy entered the final round as the co-leader, but fell behind by two shots early with some poor play on the opening nine. However, the 36-year-old poured in back-to-back birdies on 12 and 13 to flip the board and push ahead of Justin Rose, Scottie Scheffler, and the rest of the chasers.

The final result sees McIlroy claim the one-shot victory and join Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods as the only men to win the Masters in two straight years.

Another Presidents trophy for Colorado

The Colorado Avalanche clinched the 2025-26 Presidents' Trophy as the NHL's top regular-season team after defeating the Calgary Flames 2-1 on Thursday.

This is the fourth time the Avs have claimed the award as the regular-season leader in points and first since the pandemic-shortened 2020-21 campaign. Their four Presidents' Trophies are tied with the Boston Bruins and New York Rangers for the second most. The Detroit Red Wings top the list with six. 

The Presidents' Trophy was introduced for the 1985-86 season, and only eight teams have ever won the Presidents' Trophy and the Stanley Cup in the same year. The 2013 Chicago Blackhawks are the most recent team to claim both.

Burns and McIlroy share first round lead at Masters

Last year's winner is once again atop the leaderboard at Augusta National after firing an opening-round 67, McIlroy's lowest Thursday score since 2011. That mark leaves him tied with Sam Burns and two shots clear of Patrick Reed, Jason Day, and Kurt Kitayama.

Bogaerts hits walk off grand slam

Xander Bogaerts hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the 12th inning and the San Diego Padres snapped the Colorado Rockies' four-game winning streak with a 7-3 victory on Thursday night.

Bogaerts sent a 1-0 pitch from Valente Bellozo (0-1) out to left field for his ninth career grand slam and his second with the Padres.

The New Jersey Devils are shutting down defenseman Hughes for the remainder of the campaign so he can undergo a procedure and get a head start on offseason rehab, the team announced Thursday. 

The Devils, who have been eliminated from playoff contention, have four games left.

The team didn't specify the nature of the injury. Hughes skated in 68 games this season, registering 35 points while averaging a team-high 23:01 per contest.

Eflin underwent Tommy John surgery

Zach Eflin underwent Tommy John surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow, the team announced Wednesday.

Although the Orioles didn't provide a timetable for his return, the surgery effectively ends his 2026 season. Recovery from a full-scale UCL reconstruction can range from 12 to 18 months.

Eflin struck out seven in his first and only start of the season on March 31. However, he left the game hurt after 3 2/3 innings and was placed on the 15-day injured list the following day with what the team called right elbow discomfort.

Lopez and Soler suspended

Ron Francis stepping down

Mendoza will not attend NFL draft
