Tiger Woods pleads not guilty


Tiger Woods entered a not guilty plea in his driving under the influence case in Florida on Tuesday, hours after a sheriff's report said he had pain pills and showed signs of impairment at the scene of the crash last week.

The online court docket for Martin County, Florida, showed Woods entered a written plea of not guilty and planned to waive his appearance during an arraignment hearing next month.

Woods' eyes were bloodshot and glassy, his pupils dilated and he had opioid pills in his pocket when interviewed at the scene of the crash, according to the arrest report released by the Martin County Sheriff's Office.

Woods told deputies he had been looking at his phone and fiddling with the radio before he clipped a truck in front of him, the report said.

Cody Ponce out with ACL injury


Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Cody Ponce sustained an ACL sprain in his right knee and will miss significant time, manager John Schneider said Tuesday, according to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.

The Blue Jays are waiting for second opinions before figuring out how to proceed with Ponce's injury.

Leafs fire Brad Treliving


The Toronto Maple Leafs fired general manager Brad Treliving, the team announced Monday.

Treliving was hired in 2023 and led the Maple Leafs to back-to-back playoff appearances. However, Toronto is on track to see its nine-year postseason streak snapped amid a disappointing 2025-26 campaign.

Victor Wembanyama had a season-high 41 points and 16 rebounds while collecting the fastest double-double in NBA history, and the San Antonio Spurs won their ninth straight, defeating the Chicago Bulls 129-114 on Monday night.

Alec Bohm sues his parents


Alec Bohm has sued his parents for millions of dollars, accusing them of siphoning large amounts of his money into financial accounts they managed for him and then using some of the cash to pay their own expenses.

Bohm's lawsuit, filed Wednesday in a Philadelphia court, comes after he began to review his personal and financial affairs in recent months, and said that his parents refused to give him access to the accounts or provide him with the information he sought about them.

Brady considered NFL comeback


Future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady revealed he considered ending his retirement to resume his playing career but said the NFL didn't support the plan.

Brady would have to sell his ownership stake in the Raiders if he seriously considered pursuing a comeback as a player. A 2023 league policy prohibits players and team employees from holding equity in a franchise.

Jamal Murray scores 53 points


Jamal Murray scored a season-high 53 points, Nikola Jokic had 23 points, 21 rebounds and a season-high 19 assists, and the Denver Nuggets held off the Dallas Mavericks 142-135 on Wednesday night.

Jokic entered the night with 5,992 assists and reached the milestone when he fed Murray for a layup with 4:56 left in the second quarter. It was part of a 33-point first half for Murray, who was 11-of-16 from the field and scored 14 straight points in one stretch.

Hedman taking temporary leave


Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Hedman is taking a temporary leave of absence from the team for personal reasons, the club announced Wednesday.

The Lightning said no further details would be shared about the status of the seven-time All-Star, who hasn't played since March 19.

Hedman missed 22 games earlier this season due to an elbow issue and was limited by a lower-body injury while representing Sweden at the Olympics in February.

Puka Nacua sued for assault and battery


Puka Nacua has been sued for assault and battery by a woman who says he made an antisemitic statement and bit her on the shoulder on New Year's Eve.

The civil lawsuit was filed this week in Los Angeles, according to TMZ. The suit also cites gender violence and negligence.

Plaintiff Madison Atiabi and her attorney, Joseph Kar, claim Nacua made an antisemitic exclamation that emotionally distressed her when they were together in Century City. She says Nacua bit her and left teeth marks on her shoulder when they were in a van together later in the night, and she claims Nacua also bit her friend's thumb.

George substance connected to mental health


Paul George declined to get into the specifics of his failed drug test that landed him a 25-game suspension but says he is mentally and physically ready to help the Philadelphia 76ers with their playoff push over the last 10 games of the season.

George will play for the Sixers on Wednesday night against Chicago.

The Sixers - who also played the last 13 games without an injured Joel Embiid - went 13-12 in his absence and entered Tuesday night's games at 39-33 and in seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Smith-Njigba's reported new agreement would make him the highest-paid receiver in NFL history at an average of $42.15 million per year. The deal also includes over $120 million in guaranteed money, adds Schefter.

McCutchen makes Rangers opening day


Andrew McCutchen will be on the opening day roster for the Texas Rangers, who expect the 39-year-old former MVP outfielder to split some time at designated hitter, maybe play a few games in the field and be a mentor to their young, talented outfielders. 

Chris Young, the team's president of baseball operations, said Monday that McCutchen, who joined the team on a minor league contract less than three weeks ago, will be part of the 26-man squad when the Rangers begin the season Thursday at Philadelphia. The 2013 National League MVP and five-time All-Star more than a decade ago with Pittsburgh won a roster spot over Mark Canha, another veteran outfielder also in camp on a minor league deal.

Phillies sign Sanchez to 6 Years


The Philadelphia Phillies restructured star left-hander Sanchez contract, ripping up his original deal to give him a new extension in an unusual move.

Sánchez, who had been under contract through 2028, signed a new six-year extension with the Phillies that kicks in next season. His revised deal, which also includes a club option in 2033, is worth $107 million in guaranteed money

Strider will start season on injured list


Atlanta Braves right-hander Spencer Strider will start the season on the injured list because of a strained oblique, the team announced Monday.

Strider had been scheduled to start in Monday's spring training finale against Pittsburgh before being scratched. Braves manager Walt Weiss told reporters the team is hopeful Strider will miss only a couple of weeks.

The 27-year-old Strider is aiming to take another step forward now that he's two years removed from right elbow surgery. Strider missed most of 2024 and returned to the majors last year, going 7-14 with a 4.45 ERA in 23 starts.

Carson Benge makes Mets opening Day


New York Mets prospect Carson Benge will be the club's starting right fielder to begin the 2026 season, the team announced Monday.

Benge is set to make his MLB debut Thursday versus the Pittsburgh Pirates on Opening Day.

Grichuk makes Yankees opening day roster


Veteran outfielder Randal Grichuk has made the New York Yankees' Opening Day roster.

Manager Aaron Boone told reporters Saturday that Grichuk made the team. The Yankees also announced they reassigned infielder Paul DeJong and utility manSeth Brown to minor-league camp and optioned utility-man Oswaldo Cabrera and infielder Max Schuemann to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Clark announces retirement


Wide receiver Clark announced his retirement on Friday after seven NFL seasons.

"After much contemplation, I have decided to share a proper farewell as I navigate retirement," Chark said in an Instagram post.

Atlanta Braves outfielder Jurickson Profar will miss the 2026 season and postseason after his appeal of a 162-game suspension by Major League Baseball for a second failed drug test was resolved, two people familiar with the process told The Associated Press.

The people spoke on condition of anonymity Thursday because no announcement has been made.

Trey Yesavage shoulder injury



Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Yesavage will begin the 2026 campaign on the injured list with a shoulder impingement, manager John Schneider said Thursday.

Vladdy wondering why WBC doesn’t use ABS


Vladdy is still perplexed by the way the Dominican Republic was eliminated from the World Baseball Classic after a terrible call ended Sunday's semifinal versus the United States.

The Toronto Blue Jays first baseman believes the WBC should've used the ABS system that MLB is implementing for the 2026 season. The tournament didn't employ the technology because some of the international host ballparks lacked the proper camera and radar setups.

Crosby returns to action


Pittsburgh Penguins captain Crosby will return to the lineup Wednesday against the Carolina Hurricanes, head coach Dan Muse announced.

Crosby has been out since sustaining a lower-body injury against Czechia at the Olympics on Feb. 18. He missed Canada's last two games in Italy and has been out for 11 NHL contests.

For the first time ever, Venezuela is World Baseball Classic champions.

The Venezuelans survived a late American comeback to beat Team USA 3-2 in Tuesday's WBC final at loanDepot Park. Eugenio Suárez answered Bryce Harper's eighth-inning game-tying homer with a double in the top of the ninth that plated the tournament-winning run. Closer Daniel Palencia then set the U.S. down in order to start Venezuela's celebration.

DeRosa wants the WBC to move to mid season

Yamamoto will start the season for Dodgers


World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto will start another season opener for the Los Angeles Dodgers, just like he did last year when they went on to win their second consecutive championship.

Manager Dave Roberts told reporters at spring training Monday that Yamamoto will start the March 26 opener at home against Arizona.

Yamamoto was the first and last pitcher used by the Dodgers last season, when he got the final eight outs in their 11-inning World Series Game 7 clincher at Toronto. He also won both of his World Series starts, a complete game in Game 2 and then threw 96 pitches over six innings in Game 6, a night before throwing 34 pitches to close out the series.

Rojas suspended 80 games for failed drug test


Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Johan Rojas was suspended for the first 80 games of the season by Major League Baseball on Monday following a positive test for the performance-enhancing substance Boldenone.

Rojas' suspension was announced after a grievance filed by the players' association appealing the discipline was denied by independent arbitrator Martin F. Scheinman.

Judge says WBC is bigger than the World Series


On a night when All-Stars and future Hall of Famers thrilled fans and each other until the final out, Aaron Judge proclaimed the World Baseball Classic had grown into the sport's biggest event.

"It's bigger and better than the World Series," the U.S. captain said after a 2-1 semifinal win over the Dominican Republic that came down to Sunday night's final pitch. "The passion that these fans have, representing their country, representing some of their favorite players, there's nothing like it."

Draisaitl out with injury


Connor McDavid had three assists, linemate Leon Draisaitl scored, but was injured soon after and the Edmonton Oilers beat the Nashville Predators 3-1 on Sunday to end a two-game losing streak.

Draisaitl took a hard early hit from Ozzy Wiesblatt. The Edmonton star came back for a couple of shifts, but didn't return for the start of the second period.

USA heading to WBC Final

Team USA is off to the World Baseball Classic finals, eliminating the Dominican Republic with a nail-biting 2-1 win in the semifinal Sunday at loanDepot Park.

Mason Miller struck out Geraldo Perdomo on a questionable called third strike as the Dominican Republic stranded the tying run at third base to end the game.

SGA keeps his streak alive


Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had 20 points and 10 assists, and the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 116-103 on Sunday for their eighth straight win.

Gilgeous-Alexander barely extended his record streak of games with at least 20 points to 128. He had just 10 points heading into the fourth, and he re-entered the game with 7:10 left after resting.

Raptors defeat Pistons


Brandon Ingram had a game-high 34 points and the Toronto Raptors defeated the Detroit Pistons 119-108 on Sunday.

RJ Barrett added 27 points and six rebounds for Toronto, which has won back-to-back games.

The win helped the Raptors hang on to sixth in the Eastern Conference.

Capitals sign Cole Hutson


The Washington Capitals signed 19-year-old defenseman Cole Hutson to a three-year entry-level contract with an average annual value of $975,000.

The Capitals drafted Hutson in the second round in 2024, and he had 10 goals and 22 assists in 35 games for Boston University this season. He also represented the United States in the world junior championships in 2025 and 2026. When the U.S. won gold in 2025, he had three goals and eight assists, becoming the first defenseman to lead the tournament in scoring.

Lindor returns from hand surgery


New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor made his spring training debut on Sunday, going 1 for 3 with a run scored in his first game back after Feb. 11 hand surgery.

"I think everything's going in the right direction," he said after a rain-shortened 8-1 victory over the Blue Jays. "It was a really good experience. I felt like I was pretty much like myself, and I finished the game healthy. Overall, it's a good day for me."

Arizona defeats Houston


Brayden Burries scored 21 points, including a pair of free throws with 8.3 seconds left, and second-ranked Arizona held off No. 5 Houston 79-74 on Saturday night in a rematch of last year's Big 12 Tournament title game won by the Cougars.

Koa Peat also had 21 points and Jaden Bradley followed his semifinal game-winner against Iowa State with 13 for the No. 1 seed Wildcats (32-2), who head into the NCAA Tournament having won nine straight games — six against ranked opponents.

St. John’s defeats UConn


With another St. John's championship salted away, Zuby Ejiofor walked slowly to the sideline with seconds remaining, tears trickling down the senior forward's face as he lowered his 6-foot-9 frame for multiple hugs.

Moments later, in a fitting scene, he and Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino climbed a ladder together to cut down the nets at Madison Square Garden.

No argument anymore about who owns the Big East these days. St. John's has toppled UConn.
