Zion Williamson out with hamstring injury

New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson has been diagnosed with a left hamstring strain, the team announced Tuesday.

The 25-year-old will miss at least 7-10 days with the injury.

It's the first setback of the season for Williamson, who has struggled to stay healthy since New Orleans drafted him first overall in 2019. The Duke product has played more than 30 games in a single campaign just twice in seven NBA seasons, and missed two months early in 2024-25 with a hamstring strain in the same leg. During his 27-game absence last year, the Pelicans went 4-23.

Darius Garland will make season debut

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland will make his first appearance of the season Wednesday against the Philadelphia 76ers, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.

Garland missed the first seven games of the year recovering from offseason surgery on his big toe.

The two-time All-Star was Cleveland's second-leading scorer last season with 20.6 points per game. He also led the team in assists, averaging 6.7 over 75 starts.

The New Orleans Saints are trading wide receiver Rashid Shaheed to the Seattle Seahawks, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport.

The Seahawks will send 2026 fourth- and fifth-round picks in exchange, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

In Seattle, Shaheed will reunite with offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who served in the same role with the Saints last season.

Deandre Ayton leads Lakers to victory

Deandre Ayton had 29 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots against his former team, leading the short-handed Los Angeles Lakers to a 123-115 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday night.

Rui Hachimura added 28 points for the Lakers, who were missing both Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves after both played the night before in a 130-120 victory over Miami.

Nick Smith Jr., who is on a two-way deal, hit a pair of 3-pointers to help the Lakers pull away in the final minutes and finished with 25 points.

Enrique Hernandez needs to shut it

Los Angeles Dodgers utility man Enrique Hernández appeared to take a dig at Toronto Blue Jays broadcaster and Sportsnet analyst Caleb Joseph for the latter's remarks following Game 7 of the World Series.

Joseph, who works for the Blue Jays parent company Rogers Communications, claimed the "better team did not win the series" after Los Angeles stunned Toronto with a dramatic 5-4 comeback win in extras to secure back-to-back championships.

Hernández took to Instagram on Sunday to share a post with Clayton Kershaw and himself on a plane with the Commissioner's Trophy with the caption "I'm so happy the better team didn't win."

This guy shouldn't even have an opinion. He's a leftover utility player who hits at the bottom of the order and playing on a US team that cheats Canadian baseball. Be proud of stealing the Championship, you definitely didn't do anything to deserve it. Sleep tight, meathead.

Bengals are shopping Trey Hendrickson

The Cincinnati Bengals are requesting a first-round pick in exchange for pass-rusher Trey Hendrickson, sources told The Athletic's Dianna Russini.

Teams are calling the Bengals about multiple players ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline, but the franchise has held its high asking prices, Russini adds.

Cincinnati is 3-6 entering the deadline, while Hendrickson is on the final year of his contract, which makes him an enticing trade candidate.
