49ers Owner Jed York arrested

San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York was arrested over the weekend in Ohio and pleaded no contest to misdemeanour charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools.

York was arrested Sunday in East Palestine, Ohio, and was released after posting a $5,000 bond. He was sentenced to one day in jail for both offenses to be served concurrently and was credited with one day served when he pleaded no contest Monday morning. He also was fined $1,150.

Court records show that York initially was charged with engaging in prostitution, but prosecutors amended that to disorderly conduct. Records also show that York had a cellphone returned to him and that $160 that was seized was to be given to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force as part of the plea agreement. York also completed on online course.

The 49ers and the NFL didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.

The 46-year-old York took over day-to-day control of the 49ers from his parents in 2008. He became the team’s principal owner in 2024. After some initial struggles under York’s leadership, the team has been a consistent contender since hiring coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch in 2017.

Mahomes is confident he’ll start the season

Patrick needs a serious bounce back season. An injury free season and a season with teammates that have the desire to win. If it were up to Patrick Mahomes, he would have suited up for Saturday's preseason game. Though he didn't, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback says he should be ready for the team's regular-season opener Sept. 14.

This is a good sign….. Mahomes told the broadcast during Saturday's exhibition game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that he's "extremely confident" he'll play Week 1. But you need to wonder how much truth is there to this statement.

Mahomes, who suffered a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee last December, said he wanted to play Saturday, but the decision wasn't up to him. He is hoping to feature in the Chiefs' preseason finale against the Seattle Seahawks on Aug. 28. Maybe things will progress and continue to improve give the Chiefs their starting quarterback to begin the season.

Buckle up, will Patrick start? We will see.

Yikes, Puka Nacua leaves early with injury. This could definitely hurt the Rams if he doesn’t return quickly. The question becomes, how severe is the injury and how long will it take to recover. That’s what the Rams will be uncovering as soon as possible.

Defensive end Myles Garrett was held out of the Los Angeles Rams' joint practice with the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday, while wide receiver Puka Nacua left the workout early because of an apparent injury.

Sean McVay said Garrett did not participate as a precaution because of swelling in his knee, which has the two-time AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year who was acquired in a blockbuster trade in June feeling 85% healthy, according to his new head coach. Garrett missed time earlier in training camp because of what McVay described as lower body soreness.

Jorge Messi passes away

Sad story that shocked the soccer community earlier today. Jorge Messi, the father of soccer star and Argentina captain Lionel Messi, died Saturday at a hospital in the central Argentina city of Rosario.

The Rosario-based Club Atlético Newell’s Old Boys announced his death in a social media post that said he had undergone treatment in recent months for an unspecified illness. The post described him as “the pillar and the person who, with vision, rigor and affection, supported the career of the best player of all time, alongside his wife, Celia Cuccittini.”

Gibbs signs HUGE contract with Lions

Oh wow, huge contract alert!!!

The Detroit Lions are signing running back Jahmyr Gibbs to a three-year extension worth up to $75.75 million. This is insane people….. can anyone please explain to me how or why one player can make this kind of money? Honestly, think about it. It’s ridiculous when we have millions of people struggling and starving all over the world.

The new deal makes Gibbs the NFL's highest-paid running back ahead of Bijan Robinson, who inked a three-year contract worth up to $75 million earlier this week.

Gibbs' deal is worth $67.5 million before the incentives that could bump it to $75.75 million and contains $51.5 million in guaranteed money.

Ravens sign Flowers to 4 Years

The Baltimore Ravens signed flowers to a four year contract. What do you think about this? I think this is great for the Ravens to strengthen their team overall.

Flowers is coming off a career season in which he recorded 86 receptions and 1,211 receiving yards. His 72.9% catch rate and 10.3 yards per target in 2025 were also personal bests.

Baltimore picked up Flowers' fifth-year option this offseason. The former Boston College product said earlier this year that he didn't want to play anywhere else.

The 25-year-old has improved each season since entering the NFL as a first-round pick in 2023. He posted 858 yards as a rookie, registered 1,059 yards in his second season, and then reached 1,211 yards last year. He's totaled 237 receptions for 3,128 yards and 14 touchdowns over 50 career games.

Aaron Boone not surprised by Skubal trade

Is it safe to say that the baseball world was stunned by the LA Dodgers landing Skubal from the Detroit Tigers? Yes! Absolutely!

But guess what, the New York Yankees manager, Aaron Boone was far from surprised. He wasn’t surprised at all. The Dodgers are looking to win their third World Series championship in a row and they’re determined to get the best players possible before the deadline to make that happen.

Dodgers land Skubal from Tigers

Oh boy, here we go all over again. I think it’s safe to say “money talks” in a world of no cap rules. Salary cap that is. I guess you can say the Los Angeles Dodgers are going all in for a three-peat.

The two-time defending World Series champions are acquiring ace Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers for outfielder Zyhir Hope, right-hander River Ryan, and right-hander Brady Smith, sources told Jeff Passan of ESPN.

Skubal, the reigning two-time AL Cy Young winner, was the top available trade candidate going into Monday's deadline. He owns a 2.79 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, and 116 strikeouts across 96 2/3 innings.

The left-hander missed six weeks earlier in the season after undergoing surgery to remove loose bodies in his elbow. He's made nine starts since coming off the IL, posting a 2.87 ERA with 71 strikeouts.

Skubal said he wanted to remain in Detroit this season, but the Tigers opted to trade the 29-year-old before he could hit free agency this winter. He's expected to sign the biggest contract for a pitcher in MLB history once he hits the open market.

White Sox land Castillo from Mariners

The Chicago White Sox are making strides and splashing waves at the opportunity to become competitive again. They are acquiring right-hander Luis Castillo in a trade with the Seattle Mariners for reliever Seranthony Domínguez, outfielder Nolan Jones, and catching prospect Boston Smith.

The White Sox will take on all of Castillo's remaining contract, a source told Alden Gonzalez of ESPN. Here are a few stats for you to nibble on. The 33-year-old is owed around $7.25 million for the rest of 2026, will earn $22.75 million in 2027, and has a $25-million vesting option for 2028 if he accumulates 180 innings.

Yikes, check this out….. Castillo owns a 5.06 ERA with 7.8 K/9 over 99 2/3 innings (17 starts) this season. He's authored a career 3.65 ERA with 1.19 WHIP and 9.4 K/9 with the Mariners and Cincinnati Reds across 10 years.

The three-time All-Star reportedly joins a White Sox rotation that includes breakout starters Davis Martin and Sean Burke.

Domínguez posted a 4.10 ERA with 10.8 K/9 and 12 saves over 42 appearances with the White Sox. The right-hander is still owed $10 million next year and has a $2-million buyout on $12-million option for 2028.

Smith was the 15th-ranked prospect in Chicago's minor-league system.

CBS Sports puts Tony Romo on leave

CBS Sports placed NFL broadcaster Tony Romo on leave after his arrest last week on suspicion of operating a vehicle while under the influence.

"Tony Romo is on leave from his role at CBS Sports until further notice," the network said Friday.

The network also said that former NFL star J.J. Watt will join Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson on its lead broadcasting team during Romo's absence.
