Brewers eliminate Padres

image0.jpeg
Although outfielder Garrett Mitchell gracefully accepted congratulations for robbing Manny Machado of a tying home run late in the Milwaukee Brewers' Division Series-clinching victory, he clearly wasn't all that impressed with himself.

To Mitchell, that dramatic play was just the predictable result of the same daily preparation and meticulous execution that made Milwaukee the majors’ best team throughout the regular season — and which has now sent the Brewers roaring back to the National League Championship Series.

Mitchell tripled and scored the tiebreaking run in the fifth inning before making a pivotal catch on Machado's drive to the wall in the eighth, and the Brewers finished off the San Diego Padres with a 3-1 victory Wednesday night, winning their best-of-five series in four games.

Rays sweep the Yankees

The Tampa Bay Rays love New York.

Tampa Bay defeated the Yankees 4-3 in Game 3 of the ALDS on Wednesday, eliminating their division rival from the postseason.

Rays closer Bryan Baker struck out Trent Grisham with the tying run on second base to end the game. Baker earned his third save of the series after following starter Nick Martinez and four relievers.

Rookie Victor Mesa Jr.'s two-run home run in the sixth inning proved to be the difference, clobbering a no-doubter to chase Yankees starter Max Fried from the contest. Fried allowed four earned runs on seven hits across 5 2/3 innings.

Brewers 9th Inning walk off win

image0.jpeg
The Milwaukee Brewers secured a two-game series lead in the NLDS after star outfielder Jackson Chourio walked off the San Diego Padres on Sunday.

Chourio delivered a clutch two-out single off Padres All-Star closer Mason Miller to win the game.

Milwaukee entered the ninth trailing 3-2, with Miller pitching his second inning after throwing a 1-2-3 eighth frame.

Christian Yelich walked and stole second base after Garrett Mitchell grounded out to begin the inning. Miller then walked Sal Frelick before getting Andrew Vaughn to fly out to center field. Gary Sánchez walked to load the bases after coming on as a pinch hitter. Afterward, Chourio singled to score the game-winning runs.

Chiefs move to 4-0 to start the season

The Kansas City Chiefs emerged victorious in a battle of undefeated teams by beating the Las Vegas Raiders 30-27 on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium.

The 4-0 Chiefs ended the Raiders' unexpected 3-0 start to the season while also spoiling Las Vegas head coach Klint Kubiak's halftime guarantee that his team would leave with a win.

Skubal dominated Game 1

Tarik Skubal tossed six dominant innings in triple-digit heat, Teoscar Hernández, Kyle Tucker and Max Muncy homered, and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Atlanta Braves 5-3 in Game 1 of their NL Division Series on Saturday.

The game-time temperature of 100 degrees (38 Celsius) fell just short of equaling the Dodger Stadium record of 103 degrees at Game 1 of the 2017 World Series. The feels-like temperature was 105 degrees, with umpires chugging water between innings and fans shielding their heads with giveaway towels on a cloudless day.

Rasmussen throws a beauty to beat Yankees

image0.jpeg
Drew Rasmussen's bid for history fell agonizingly short, but the Tampa Bay Rays are just fine with Saturday's result.

Rasmussen lost his no-hitter after 7 2/3 innings, but Austin Wells' baserunning blunder ensured the Yankees stayed scoreless as the Rays beat New York 1-0 in Game 1 of their ALDS.

Wells broke up the no-no by ripping a double down the right-field line with two outs in the eighth inning. However, he was thrown out at third to end the frame after trying to stretch the hit into a triple.

Ty France moonshot hits the roof

The San Diego Padres were on the wrong end of some bad luck during Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 1 of the National League Division Series.

With a runner on and one out in the ninth, Padres first baseman Ty France hit a moonshot that looked to be destined for the seats when it hit the roof at American Family Field and ended up in the glove of outfielder Jackson Chourio.

Jack Hughes not joking around

image0.jpeg
New Jersey Devils star Jack Hughes wasn't thrilled with a joke made by ESPN analyst AJ Mleczko during their interview in the first intermission of Thursday's season opener against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Mleczko made reference to a 2025 team dinner at which Hughes reportedly slipped and cut his hand. He needed surgery and missed 18 games with the injury last season.

"Well, it's great to see you healthy. Let's wrap you in bubble wrap and use plastic cutlery this year. Does that sound good?" Mleczko asked.

Bryce Harper says he’s accountable for loss

image0.jpeg
Bryce Harper doesn't play the shoulda, woulda, coulda game.

The bottom line for the Philadelphia Phillies is they came up short in the postseason again.

“You’re here to do business. You’re here to win games, and we didn’t do that,” Harper said in a subdued Phillies clubhouse Thursday night following their 6-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves in the deciding Game 3 of their National League Wild Card Series.

Braves eliminate Phillies

For the first time in five years, the Atlanta Braves are off to the NLDS.

Atlanta beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-2 in Game 3 of the NL wild-card series at Truist Park to claim the series and secure a date with the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers in the next round.

Chris Sale, Atlanta's Game 1 starter, secured the final four outs in relief to clinch the victory. Sale struck out three of the five batters he faced.
