Kyle Whittingham signs with Michigan

Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham agreed to a five-year deal to become Michigan's next sideline boss, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel and Dan Wetzel.

Michigan is reportedly expected to announce the hiring later Friday.

Whittingham announced earlier in December that he planned to step down after 21 seasons at Utah. He is the winningest coach in Utes history, posting a 177-88 record.

Maxx Crosby is shut down for the rest of the season

Las Vegas Raiders star pass-rusher Maxx Crosby left the team facility after "vehemently" disagreeing with the team's plans to shut him down for the final two games of the season, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reports.

Crosby has been dealing with a knee injury and has also battled shoulder and back issues this season.

The disagreement could lead to questions about Crosby's future in Las Vegas, Glazer adds.

Jordan Love out due to concussion

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love won't play in Saturday night's game against the Baltimore Ravens because of a concussion, the team announced Friday.

Backup Malik Willis is expected to start for Green Bay, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Love was concussed during the Packers' Week 16 loss to the Chicago Bears after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit while being sacked in the second quarter. Willis finished that game.

Saturday's Packers-Ravens showdown at Lambeau Field has become a battle of the backups. Baltimore, which is fighting for its playoff life, is expected to start Tyler Huntley with Lamar Jacksondoubtful because of a back injury.

The Packers clinched a playoff spot Thursday thanks to the Detroit Lions' loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Giants set sights on Cody Bellinger

Cody Bellinger has a new suitor out west.

The San Francisco Giants are among the teams interested in signing Bellinger, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Bellinger is no stranger to the Giants, having spent the bulk of his nine-year career with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The longtime rivals now appear to be competing for Bellinger's services, as the Dodgers remain interested in a reunion with the 2019 NL MVP, Heyman adds.

Athletics sign Tyler Soderstrom

The Athletics have locked up another piece of their young core, agreeing to a seven-year, $86-million extension with outfielder Tyler Soderstrom, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan.

The contract also includes a club option for 2033, and could max out at $131 million through various escalator clauses, Passan reports. It also delays Soderstrom's eventual free agency by at least three years.

Once completed, Soderstrom's contract will represent the largest guaranteed deal in A's history. The previous record was pitcher Luis Severino's three-year, $67-million deal signed last winter.

Anthony Towns and Jordyn Woods engaged

New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns and influencer Jordyn Woods are engaged, the couple announced Thursday.

In a joint Instagram post captioned with the pun "Marry Christmas" and a few emojis, the couple shared 15 proposal photos taken on a rooftop in New York.

Woods, presciently dressed for the occasion, wore a long white gown and fuzzy coat.

Travis Kelce retirement plans

If Thursday night was the last game Travis Kelce played inside Arrowhead Stadium, he sure tried to make it a memorable one.

The Chiefs tight end only had five catches for 36 yards against Denver, playing alongside third-string quarterback Chris Oladokun while his good buddy Patrick Mahomes and backup Gardner Minshew were out with knee injuries. But several of those catches came in the closing minutes, nearly rallying Kansas City in what would have been a stunning upset of the Broncos.

Kelce and Co. wound up losing 20-13 in a game in which they were nearly two-touchdown underdogs.

Hawaii rallies to defeat California 35-31

Backup quarterback Luke Weaver threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Nick Cenacle with 10 seconds left, and Hawaii rallied for a 35-31 comeback victory over California in a thrilling Hawaii Bowl on Wednesday night.

Weaver entered the game after Micah Alejado took a hard hit on the previous play. With the Rainbow Warriors (9-4) in range for a tying field goal, coach Timmy Chang took a shot at the end zone, and Cenacle got between two defensive backs and made the contested catch.

Steve Kerr blows up on Draymond Green

Steve Kerr expressed regret over an altercation with Draymond Green that went viral during the Golden State Warriors' 120-97 win over the Orlando Magic on Monday.

"Monday night was not my finest hour, and that was a time I needed to be calm in the huddle," the head coach said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Tim Bontemps. "I regret my actions in that exchange. I apologized to (Green). He apologized to me. We both apologized to the team.

"These things, they happen - especially when you get two incredibly competitive people like Dray and me. So, over the 12 years we've been together, this has happened occasionally, and I'm not proud of it."

Rob Refsnyder off to the Mariners

The Seattle Mariners signed outfielder Rob Refsnyder to a one-year contract, the club announced Monday.

Refsnyder will make $6.25 million in 2026, and his deal includes $250,000 in incentives, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

The 34-year-old hit nine homers with 30 RBIs and an .838 OPS over 70 games as a platoon player with the Boston Red Sox in 2025. He owns a career .281/.383/.443 slash line against left-handers.
