Jorge Messi passes away

Sad story that shocked the soccer community earlier today. Jorge Messi, the father of soccer star and Argentina captain Lionel Messi, died Saturday at a hospital in the central Argentina city of Rosario.

The Rosario-based Club Atlético Newell’s Old Boys announced his death in a social media post that said he had undergone treatment in recent months for an unspecified illness. The post described him as “the pillar and the person who, with vision, rigor and affection, supported the career of the best player of all time, alongside his wife, Celia Cuccittini.”

Gibbs signs HUGE contract with Lions

Oh wow, huge contract alert!!!

The Detroit Lions are signing running back Jahmyr Gibbs to a three-year extension worth up to $75.75 million. This is insane people….. can anyone please explain to me how or why one player can make this kind of money? Honestly, think about it. It’s ridiculous when we have millions of people struggling and starving all over the world.

The new deal makes Gibbs the NFL's highest-paid running back ahead of Bijan Robinson, who inked a three-year contract worth up to $75 million earlier this week.

Gibbs' deal is worth $67.5 million before the incentives that could bump it to $75.75 million and contains $51.5 million in guaranteed money.

Ravens sign Flowers to 4 Years

The Baltimore Ravens signed flowers to a four year contract. What do you think about this? I think this is great for the Ravens to strengthen their team overall.

Flowers is coming off a career season in which he recorded 86 receptions and 1,211 receiving yards. His 72.9% catch rate and 10.3 yards per target in 2025 were also personal bests.

Baltimore picked up Flowers' fifth-year option this offseason. The former Boston College product said earlier this year that he didn't want to play anywhere else.

The 25-year-old has improved each season since entering the NFL as a first-round pick in 2023. He posted 858 yards as a rookie, registered 1,059 yards in his second season, and then reached 1,211 yards last year. He's totaled 237 receptions for 3,128 yards and 14 touchdowns over 50 career games.

Aaron Boone not surprised by Skubal trade

Is it safe to say that the baseball world was stunned by the LA Dodgers landing Skubal from the Detroit Tigers? Yes! Absolutely!

But guess what, the New York Yankees manager, Aaron Boone was far from surprised. He wasn’t surprised at all. The Dodgers are looking to win their third World Series championship in a row and they’re determined to get the best players possible before the deadline to make that happen.

Dodgers land Skubal from Tigers

Oh boy, here we go all over again. I think it’s safe to say “money talks” in a world of no cap rules. Salary cap that is. I guess you can say the Los Angeles Dodgers are going all in for a three-peat.

The two-time defending World Series champions are acquiring ace Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers for outfielder Zyhir Hope, right-hander River Ryan, and right-hander Brady Smith, sources told Jeff Passan of ESPN.

Skubal, the reigning two-time AL Cy Young winner, was the top available trade candidate going into Monday's deadline. He owns a 2.79 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, and 116 strikeouts across 96 2/3 innings.

The left-hander missed six weeks earlier in the season after undergoing surgery to remove loose bodies in his elbow. He's made nine starts since coming off the IL, posting a 2.87 ERA with 71 strikeouts.

Skubal said he wanted to remain in Detroit this season, but the Tigers opted to trade the 29-year-old before he could hit free agency this winter. He's expected to sign the biggest contract for a pitcher in MLB history once he hits the open market.

White Sox land Castillo from Mariners

The Chicago White Sox are making strides and splashing waves at the opportunity to become competitive again. They are acquiring right-hander Luis Castillo in a trade with the Seattle Mariners for reliever Seranthony Domínguez, outfielder Nolan Jones, and catching prospect Boston Smith.

The White Sox will take on all of Castillo's remaining contract, a source told Alden Gonzalez of ESPN. Here are a few stats for you to nibble on. The 33-year-old is owed around $7.25 million for the rest of 2026, will earn $22.75 million in 2027, and has a $25-million vesting option for 2028 if he accumulates 180 innings.

Yikes, check this out….. Castillo owns a 5.06 ERA with 7.8 K/9 over 99 2/3 innings (17 starts) this season. He's authored a career 3.65 ERA with 1.19 WHIP and 9.4 K/9 with the Mariners and Cincinnati Reds across 10 years.

The three-time All-Star reportedly joins a White Sox rotation that includes breakout starters Davis Martin and Sean Burke.

Domínguez posted a 4.10 ERA with 10.8 K/9 and 12 saves over 42 appearances with the White Sox. The right-hander is still owed $10 million next year and has a $2-million buyout on $12-million option for 2028.

Smith was the 15th-ranked prospect in Chicago's minor-league system.

CBS Sports puts Tony Romo on leave

CBS Sports placed NFL broadcaster Tony Romo on leave after his arrest last week on suspicion of operating a vehicle while under the influence.

"Tony Romo is on leave from his role at CBS Sports until further notice," the network said Friday.

The network also said that former NFL star J.J. Watt will join Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson on its lead broadcasting team during Romo's absence.

Celebrini signs 5 Year $94M

This kid is unbelievable. I read that he offered the San Jose Sharks organization the opportunity to pay him less so they could spread the wealth and make the team more competitive by bringing in other players that would make them compete now.

The San Jose Sharks signed star forward Macklin Celebrini to a five-year contract extension with an $18.8-million cap hit, the team announced Wednesday.

Celebrini has one year left on his entry-level contract. The new pact kicks in during the 2027-28 campaign.

He's set to become the highest-paid player in the NHL, passing Leo Carlsson, who signed for five years at $18 million earlier in July after the Anaheim Ducks matched the Philadelphia Flyers' offer sheet.

Ohtani out with knee soreness

One of the best baseball players to have ever played the game had come up lame…. Injured with soreness in his left knee. I would bet the Dodgers will be looking for something before the trade deadline.

Shohei Ohtani wasn't in the lineup for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday night because of lingering soreness in his left knee that is keeping him off the mound.

The two-way superstar wanted to play against the Seattle Mariners, manager Dave Roberts said, but it was the team's decision to rest him. Ohtani told the training staff of renewed soreness after Wednesday night's 4-2 win.

Deebo Samuel signs with 49ers

What do we all think about this move? Samuel heading back to the 49ers on a year? Well, it happened…. free agent wide receiver Deebo Samuel is heading back to the San Francisco 49ers on a one-year deal worth up to $7 million.

Samuel spent the 2025 campaign with the Washington Commanders after the 49ers traded him away last offseason to clear salary, netting San Francisco just a fifth-round pick in the deal.

In Washington, Samuel posted 727 receiving yards and five touchdowns while also running for 75 yards and a touchdown.

Trey Mullinax suspended from PGA

Trey Mullinax has received a six-month suspension for violating the PGA Tour's anti-doping policy after testing positive for a substance banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Mullinax said in a statement provided Wednesday by the PGA Tour he used a medication to treat a condition he was diagnosed with while in college without seeking approval under the policy.

I understand the team has had a magnitude of injuries. Starting pitchers, bullpen and several starters such as Kirk and Barger. It hasn’t been easy this season especially when Vladdy has done very little. Is it true that he still has not hit a home run at Rogers Centre this season??? Yikes!

Do the Blue Jays become buyers or sellers in the next coming days leading up to the deadline? I’m not sure but what I do know, they better make a run in August to give the fans something to feel good about when they don’t make the postseason. At least contend and make it somewhat exciting.

Jake Paul in the NFL?

Someone please explain this to me.... why on earth would Jake Paul express interest in pursuing the NFL?

Professional football requires years of specialized development. Players spend their youth mastering complex offensive and defensive systems before competing at the collegiate level, where NFL scouts evaluate thousands of prospects every season. Even for exceptional athletes, breaking into the NFL without recent football experience is extraordinarily difficult. Jake Paul thinks this will be easy. What?

To have success in the NFL depends on much more than physical fitness. Players must quickly process defensive formations, execute precise assignments, understand complex playbooks, and react instantly to changing situations during live competition. These skills are developed through years of practice and game experience. Jake Paul simply doesn't have these skills.... at least, not yet.

He legit thinks he's fast than most, has better hands than most and can play the game better than most NFL athletes. Come on, this guy has fallen from the nutty tree and hit several branches on the way down. Has Jake Paul lost his mind?

Jackson Koivun wins the 3M Open

Jackson Koivun felt the nerves but never flinched, securing his first PGA Tour win in the face of a strong finish by the world’s top-ranked player and clear fan favourite in Scottie Scheffler.

Koivun won the 3M Open by three strokes Sunday in only his third start as a professional, holding off Scheffler with a closing 5-under 66 for a tournament-record 25-under 259 total.

Juan Soto will undergo MRI

New York Mets outfielder Juan Soto left Friday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the sixth inning with left calf soreness.

Jorge Polanco pinch hit for the five-time All-Star, who's been playing through a calf injury.

Soto started Friday's contest as the designated hitter and drew two walks before exiting.

Following the Mets' 4-2 loss, manager Andy Green said Soto would get imaging done on his calf on Saturday.

Kyle Shanahan recovering from car accident

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a car accident last week, the team announced Saturday.

Shanahan will participate in team activities during training camp on a limited basis.

The 46-year-old suffered a concussion, three broken ribs, a broken hand, a broken nose, and needed over 40 stitches in his face.

Shanahan reportedly collided with an SUV near his home in northern California. He was taken to a local hospital before being released. The other driver wasn't injured, according to Palo Alto lieutenant Nicholas Martinez.

Barger season ending elbow surgery

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Addison Barger will undergo season-ending elbow surgery, manager John Schneider said Friday.

Schneider added the team still doesn't know whether Barger will undergo Tommy John surgery or an internal brace procedure.

"It's tough to lose the whole year of at-bats, reps, and performance. We were counting on him to be a big part of our team. You can see how much we miss him, for sure," Schneider said

Tony Romo arrested

CBS NFL analyst and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has been arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while under the influence.

According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office’s arrest report, Romo performed poorly on field sobriety tests after getting stopped while driving south on Interstate 43 on Thursday. Sheriff’s officials said Romo was taken into custody, booked and released.

LeBron James joins the 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers and free-agent superstar LeBron James have agreed to a two-year, $8-million deal. The contract includes a player option. James joins the 76ers after the 22-time All-Star informed the Los Angeles Lakers that he wouldn't return for the 2026-27 campaign and would instead explore free agency.

In a series of social media posts made Friday, James explained that he believes he can help transform Philadelphia into a championship team. He also said this will be his "last decision."
