The San Diego Padres eliminated the 111-win Los Angeles Dodgerswith a 5-3 win Saturday at a rainy and raucous Petco Park, winning their best-of-five National League Division Series 3-1.

San Diego advances to the NLCS for the third time in franchise history and the first since 1998.

Tua Tagovailoa clears concussion protocol


Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa cleared concussion protocol Saturday and is expected to return for the team's Week 7 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Tagovailoa received four outside opinions while team doctors also unanimously cleared him from the protocol, Schefter adds. All parties reportedly agreed that the quarterback's scans didn't display any long-term damage to his brain.

The signal-caller has been sidelined since being stretchered off the field in Week 4 after hitting his head on the turf on a sack. The incident came just days after Tagovailoa briefly exited Miami's Week 3 game when he appeared disorientated following a big hit late in the second quarter. He missed only three plays and finished the contest.

Warriors look to sign Jordan Poole


The Golden State Warriors and guard Jordan Poole are finalizing a four-year, $140-million extension, his agents told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Both sides are completing the final details, and the formal agreement is expected soon, adds Wojnarowski.

Coming off his third NBA season, Poole averaged a career-high 18.5 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.4 rebounds in 76 games for the Warriors in 2021-22.

Padres win Game 3 over Dodgers


Until Friday night, San Diego Padres fans had never seen a home playoff victory in person since Petco Park opened in 2004.

Blake Snell, Trent Grisham and the Padres' lights-out bullpen finally gave them the chance to go crazy.

Snell pitched five-hit ball into the sixth inning and Grisham homered at festive Petco Park, helping the Padres top the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1 for a 2-1 lead in the NL Division Series.

Tom Brady fined for attempted kick


The NFL fined Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady$11,139 on Friday for attempting to kick Atlanta Falcons defensive lineman Grady Jarrett during their Week 5 game, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The incident reportedly happened on the same play Jarrett was called for roughing the passer after a third-down sack late in the fourth quarter. The officials were widely criticized around the NFL for the controversial penalty call, which effectively sealed Tampa Bay's 21-15 victory.

Calgary Flames win season opener


Dillon Dube scored short-handed and the Calgary Flames won their season opener for the first time since 2009, beating the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche 5-3 on Thursday night.

Dube and Rasmus Andersson scored in the second period, Elias Lindholm and Tyler Toffoli had power-play goals in the third and Brett Ritchie also scored. Jacob Markstrom made 22 saves to help the Flames end an 0-10-2 funk in openers.

Matthews leads Maple Leaf charge over Capitals


Auston Matthews broke a third-period tie, Ilya Samsonov made 24 saves against his former Washington teammates and the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Capitals 3-2 on Thursday night.

John Tavares and Calle Jarnkrok also scored and Morgan Rielly added two assists to help the Maple Leafs rebound from an opening 4-3 loss at Montreal on Wednesday night.

Deshaun Watson facing another civil lawsuit


Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson is facing a new civil lawsuit from a woman in Texas claiming he pressured her into a sexual act during a massage therapy session two years ago.

The woman, referred to in court documents as Jane Doe, filed the lawsuit on Thursday in Harris County District Court in Houston. She claims Watson asked to have sex with her after getting a massage in a hotel room in 2020. When she refused, he "was able to pressure her into oral sex."

According to the lawsuit, Watson paid her $300, although her normal charge is $115 for an hourly massage. The woman claims Watson continued to text her following the encounter.

Patrik Laine out with elbow injury


Columbus Blue Jackets star Patrik Laine will miss three-to-four weeks after spraining his elbow in Wednesday's season-opening loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.

The injury occurred early in the second period when a forechecking Laine became tangled up with Hurricanes defenseman Brett Pesce. Laine's right arm appeared to be pinned against the boards at an awkward angle during the collision.

Laine finished his shift but was subsequently ruled out for the remainder of the contest.
