Jordan Love out 3-4 weeks


 

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love suffered an MCL sprain Friday night against the Philadelphia Eagles, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The 25-year-old reportedly avoided a season-ending injury but is expected to miss some time. Green Bay hopes its star signal-caller misses three-to-four weeks, but he will undergo further testing, sources told ESPN's Rob Demovsky.

Love exited the contest on the team's final drive of the game. He was helped off by medical staff, and backup Malik Willis was forced into the game for the final two plays.

Ramsey signs large with Dolphins


 

The Miami Dolphins and cornerback Jalen Ramsey agreed to a three-year extension with an average annual value of $24.1 million, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Ramsey's deal includes $55.3 million guaranteed, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

The extension makes Ramsey the league's highest-paid corner for the second time in his career, per Schefter. Denver Broncos standout Patrick Surtain II had set the bar earlier this week with an extension that carries an average annual value of $24 million.

Ramsey has been one of the most decorated defensive backs since he was drafted fifth overall in 2016. The 29-year-old has been named to the Pro Bowl in seven consecutive seasons and earned three first-team All-Pro nods.

Beautiful Alex Morgan announces retirement


 

With two Women’s World Cup titles and an Olympic gold medal, Alex Morgan is retiring from professional soccer as one of the United States national team’s most prolific scorers and as someone who helped lead the fight for equal pay.

The 35-year-old Morgan, who said she is pregnant with her second child, made the announcement on Thursday in a social media post. At times during the heartfelt message, Morgan was near tears.

“This decision wasn’t easy, but at the beginning of 2024 I felt in my heart and soul that this was the last season that I would play soccer,” she said. “Soccer has been a part of me for 30 years, and it was one of the first things that I ever loved. I gave everything to this sport and what I got in return was more than I could have ever dreamed of.”

Matt Chapman signs large with Giants


 

Matt Chapman is staying on the West Coast for the foreseeable future after the third baseman signed a six-year extension with the San Francisco Giants, the team announced Wednesday.

The contract is for $151 million and wipes out the final two years of his current deal with the club, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan. There's no deferred money and the contract also includes a no-trade clause for the eight-year veteran, Passan adds.

Chapman inked a three-year, $54-million pact with the Giants in the offseason after spending the last two years with the Toronto Blue Jays. The deal had player opt-outs following each of the first two seasons - $17 million in 2025 and $18 million in 2026.

Attempted murder of Ricky Pearsall


 

A 17-year-old high school senior charged with attempted murder in the daytime weekend shooting of San Francisco 49ers rookie receiver Ricky Pearsall was arraigned in juvenile court Wednesday and said through his attorney that he was sorry for what happened.

The slight teen wore a green sweatshirt and green pants, looked straight ahead at the judge during the proceeding and did not turn around to acknowledge his parents, who were in the room.

San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins charged the teen on Tuesday with attempted murder, assault with a semiautomatic weapon and attempted second-degree robbery. On Wednesday, her office added several gun-related charges.

Cameron Heyward signs 3 years


 

The Pittsburgh Steelers are keeping one of their defensive leaders in the fold for the foreseeable future.

Defensive lineman Cameron Heyward signed a three-year extension Tuesday, the team confirmed. The new deal is worth $45 million and includes $16 million guaranteed, sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Heyward, 35, was entering a contract year and had $16 million remaining on his current deal, Fowler adds. The new agreement is believed to be the largest of its kind for a defensive player over the age of 35.

Trent Williams signs 3 Years


 

Left tackle Trent Williams agreed to a restructured three-year, $82.66-million contract with the San Francisco 49ers to end his holdout, Williams' agency, Elite Loyalty Sports, announcedTuesday.

Williams will earn $48 million fully guaranteed and a $25.69-million signing bonus with the new deal.

He's been absent from team activities and facilities while seeking a new contract.

Leon Draisaitl signs 8 years



Leon Draisaitl isn't going anywhere.

The Edmonton Oilers signed the superstar center to an eight-year contract extension with an average annual value of $14 million, the team announced Tuesday.

The contract begins in 2025-26. Draisaitl is entering the final year of his previous deal, which paid him $8.5 million annually, and he could've hit unrestricted free agency in 2025.

Scottie Scheffler wins FedEx Cup


 

Scottie Scheffler capped off the biggest year in golf in nearly two decades by winning the biggest prize in golf.

Challenged briefly Sunday in the Tour Championship, Scheffler responded with three straight birdies to made winning look as inevitable as it has seemed all year. He closed with a 4-under 67 for a four-shot victory over Collin Morikawa to capture the FedEx Cup and its $25 million prize.

That pushed his season earnings, including bonuses, to just over $62.3 million.

White Sox set new franchise loss record


 

The Chicago White Sox made some more dubious history Sunday, getting blanked 2-0 by the New York Mets to set a new franchise record with their 107th loss of the 2024 season.

The previous White Sox record of 106 had stood since 1970.

Sunday's defeat was Chicago's 40th in its last 44 games, putting the club alongside the 1916 Philadelphia Athletics as the second modern-era team to have such a cold stretch, according to Scott Merkin of MLB.com.
