Lamar Jackson ruled out verses Texans

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Houston Texans due to a hamstring injury, the team announced Friday. 

The star signal-caller suffered the injury in last week's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He exited the contest in the third quarter and didn't return. Jackson hasn't practiced this week leading up to Sunday's game.

Cooper Rush, who replaced the injured Jackson in Week 4, is slated to get the start, according to ESPN's Jamison Hensley. Rush has started 14 games during his eight-year NFL career. He signed a two-year deal with Baltimore this offseason after spending the last four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys.

Mets clean house!

The New York Mets won't bring back pitching coach Jeremy Hefner, hitting coaches Jeremy Barnes and Eric Chavez, and third base coach Mike Sarbaugh, the team announced Friday.

In addition, bench coach John Gibbons resigned, and catching instructor Glenn Sherlock retired.

First base coach Antoan Richardson, strategy coach Danny Barnes, and coaching assistant Rafael Fernandez were invited back for next year.

Bucky Irving out with foot injury

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks due to a sprained foot, the team announced Friday. 

Irving is also in danger of missing Tampa Bay's Week 6 contest against the San Francisco 49ers, a source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

The 23-year-old is reportedly considered week-to-week. He hasn't practiced this week and was spotted using crutches and wearing a boot Wednesday.

Scott Laughton lower body injury

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Scott Laughton is considered week-to-week with a lower-body injury, the team announced Friday.

Laughton suffered the injury during Thursday's 3-1 defeat to the Detroit Red Wings, according to TSN's Darren Dreger. The veteran notched two goals and two assists in three preseason games.

The Maple Leafs acquired Laughton at last season's trade deadline in a package that included a 2027 conditional first-round pick. He produced two goals and two assists in 20 regular-season games while adding two assists in 13 playoff contests.

Oilers sign Kris Knoblauch to 3 Years

The Edmonton Oilers have agreed to a three-year extension with head coach Kris Knoblauch, keeping him behind the bench through the 2028-29 season, the team announced Friday.

Knoblauch was set to enter this season with one year left on his contract. He took over the position after Edmonton fired Jay Woodcroft 13 games into the 2023-2024 campaign.

Knoblauch has posted a 94-47-10 record in 151 games as the Oilers' head coach. The 47-year-old led the team to back-to-back Stanley Cup Final appearances, losing both times to the Florida Panthers. Edmonton is 29-19 in the playoffs under Knoblauch, the first coach since Scotty Bowman to lead his team to the Stanley Cup Final in each of his first two seasons.

Yankees defeat Red Sox in Wild Card

The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox 4-0 in Game 3 of the American League wild-card series Thursday to advance to face the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALDS.

Cubs defeat Padres in Wild Card

The Chicago Cubs defeated the San Diego Padres 3-1 in Thursday's Game 3 of the National League wild-card series to advance to face the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLDS.

Tigers eliminate Guardians in Wild Card

The Detroit Tigers defeated the Cleveland Guardians 6-3 in Thursday's Game 3 of the American League wild-card series and will play the Seattle Mariners in the ALDS.

Detroit heads to the ALDS for the second straight campaign. It lost to the Guardians in last year's division series.

Ducks sign Jackson LaCombe

The Anaheim Ducks signed defenseman Jackson LaCombe to an eight-year extension worth $9 million per season, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

The deal, signed Thursday, is the richest in franchise history, Friedman adds. Ducks icons Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, and Paul Kariya had higher average annual values, but LaCombe's $72 million is the largest total sum.

LaCombe will play out the final year of his current contract in 2025-26, earning $925,000, according to PuckPedia. He'll be an unrestricted free agent in 2034.
