Yesavage powers Blue Jays over Yankees

Trey Yesavage outpitched Cam Schlittler in a marquee matchup between young aces, and the Toronto Blue Jays edged the New York Yankees 2-1 on Wednesday night.

Following a rain delay that lasted more than two hours, the right-handers traded zeros until the seventh inning — when Toronto loaded the bases with nobody out on an infield single, a walk and a bunt single.

Andrés Giménez then fouled off seven pitches, five with two strikes, before drawing an 11-pitch walk that scored Ernie Clement and chased Schlittler. One out later, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. lofted a sacrifice fly against Jake Bird to make it 2-0.

Yesavage (2-1) allowed just two hits and walked none while striking out eight over six shutout innings. The 22-year-old, who retained his rookie status after throwing 14 regular-season innings last year, has a 1.07 ERA in five starts after missing the first month this season due to a right shoulder impingement.

Thunder tie up the series 1-1 with Spurs

The MVP looked like the MVP again, and the Western Conference finals are knotted up.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander bounced back from a subpar series opener to score 30 points, Alex Caruso added 17 off the bench and the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the San Antonio Spurs 122-113 on Wednesday night in Game 2.

Chet Holmgren scored 13 points and reserves Jared McCain and Cason Wallace each had 12 for Oklahoma City. The Thunder finished with a 57-25 edge in bench scoring, plus a 27-10 advantage in points off turnovers.

Vegas wins Game 1 over Avalanche

Dylan Coghlan scored his first playoff goal to get Vegas rolling, Carter Hart made 36 saves and the Golden Knights opened the Western Conference Final by holding off the Colorado Avalanche 4-2 on Wednesday night.

Trailing 3-0 in the third period, Colorado made it 3-2 with 2:21 remaining on a power-play goal from Gabriel Landeskog. Nic Dowd sealed it for Vegas with an empty-net goal.

Sabres sign Ruff for 2 year extension

The Buffalo Sabres signed head coach Lindy Ruff to a two-year contract extension Wednesday, the team announced. 

His current deal was set to expire this summer, but he's now locked in through the 2027-28 season.

Ruff earned a Jack Adams Award nomination this season after leading the Sabres to the playoffs for the first time in 14 years. Buffalo was eliminated by the Montreal Canadiens in Game 7 of their second-round series Monday.

Cale Makar out for Game 1 vs. Vegas

Colorado Avalanche star defenseman Cale Makar won't play in Game 1 of the Western Conference Final against the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday, head coach Jared Bednar announced.

Makar is day-to-day with an injury, and Bednar expects him to play in the series. Makar appeared to sustain an injury in Game 5 against the Minnesota Wild. He briefly left the game but returned as the Avalanche closed out the series.

Jalen Brunson leads Knicks comeback win

Jalen Brunson sparked one of the NBA's greatest postseason comebacks, a rally from a 22-point deficit in the fourth quarter, and finished with 38 points as New York beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 115-104 in overtime on Tuesday night in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals.

Canucks fire head coach Adam Foote

The Vancouver Canucks have fired head coach Adam Foote, the team announced Tuesday.

Assistant coaches Kevin Dean, Scott Young, and Brett McLean were also dismissed.

The Canucks posted a 25-49-8 record in Foote's lone season on the job, finishing last place in the NHL.

Oklahoma City Thunder star SGA was critical of his Game 1 performance following the team's 122-115 double-overtime loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Monday.

Montreal wins Game 7 over Buffalo

The Montreal Canadiens eliminated the Buffalo Sabres and advanced to the Eastern Conference Final with a 3-2 overtime win in Monday's Game 7.

The Canadiens will face the Carolina Hurricanes with a trip to the Stanley Cup Final on the line. Game 1 will be played Thursday in Carolina. Montreal last reached the conference final in 2021, eventually falling to the Lightning in the championship series.
