Dodgers sign Edman


 

The Los Angeles Dodgers agreed to a five-year, $74-million extension with utility man Tommy Edman, the club announced Friday.

The deal, which includes a sixth-year club option, reportedly involves a $17-million signing bonus, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan.

The contract also includes $25 million in deferred money, which will be paid out over a period of 10 years beginning five years after the completion of the deal, a source told The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya.

Dodgers sign Blake Snell


 

The Los Angeles Dodgers and free-agent starting pitcher Blake Snell agreed to a five-year, $182-million contract, a source told Jeff Passan of ESPN.

The deal includes a $52-million signing bonus, limited no-trade clause, and some deferred money, sources told Alden González and Jorge Castillo of ESPN. Snell's contract reportedly does not include an opt-out.

Daniel Jones signs with Vikings


 

Former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is signing with the Minnesota Vikings, sources told Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz.

Jones will begin on the Vikings' practice squad, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, and Cameron Wolfe. Minnesota will pay him $375,000 for the remainder of the season, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The 27-year-old had multiple options but chose the Vikings because of his relationship with head coach Kevin O'Connell, Schultz adds.

Auston Matthews remains out


 

Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews will miss his ninth consecutive game Wednesday against the Florida Panthers because of an upper-body injury, head coach Craig Berube announced, according to TSN's Mark Masters.

"He had a real good practice yesterday, but he's been off a while," Berube said. "He needs a little bit more to be ready to go."

The Maple Leafs are also expected to continue to be without fellow forwards Matthew Knies (upper body), Max Domi(lower body), David Kampf (lower body), Calle Jarnkrok (hernia), Max Pacioretty (lower body), and Ryan Reaves (suspension) against the Panthers.

Ryan Reaves head shot


 

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Ryan Reaves will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety for an illegal check to the head of Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse on Saturday.

Reaves caught Nurse with the high hit early in the second period. The Oilers blue-liner was bloodied on the play and ruled out for the rest of the contest with an upper-body injury.

Giannis leads Bucks with 59 points


 

Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 59 points to pace the Milwaukee Bucks to a 127-120 overtime victory over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night.

It was a league-high for points by an NBA player this season and the second-highest single-game total for Antetokounmpo, who had 64 against Indiana last season.

49ers sign Lenoir 5 Years


 

The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to a five-year, $92-million extension with cornerback Deommodore Lenoir, sources told FOX Sports' Jordan Schultz.

The deal's $18.4-million average annual value ranks 12th among cornerbacks, according to Over the Cap.

Lenoir has spent his entire career with the 49ers. The 2021 fifth-rounder was in the final year of his rookie deal.

Wander Franco involved in armed altercation


 

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco was involved in an armed altercation in a parking lot in the Dominican Republic countryside and was arrested, police said Monday.

Meregirdo Espinosa, a Dominican police spokesman, told The Associated Press it happened in San Juan de la Maguana, a city that is 116 miles (187 kilometers) west of the Dominican Republic's capital of Santo Domingo. Franco was arrested Sunday. Another man and a woman were also detained, police said.

Espinosa didn't specify who, but said some men in the altercation were carrying firearms.
