Spurs advance to Western Conference final

The San Antonio Spurs were well on their way to the Western Conference finals in the fourth quarter when Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards went down to their bench to briefly offer his congratulations.

The young Spurs left no doubt they're already a serious NBA title contender.

Jordan Westburg out with elbow surgery

Baltimore Orioles third baseman Jordan Westburg will undergo season-ending elbow surgery.

Westburg hasn't played this season after it was revealed during spring training that he had a partially torn UCL in his throwing elbow in addition to an oblique injury.

The 27-year-old was cleared to resume throwing at the beginning of April, but he was shut down May 4 after experiencing renewed discomfort.

Schwarber blasts another moon shot

Kyle Schwarber hit his major league-leading 18th home run, a two-run shot that broke a scoreless tie in the eighth inning, and the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Boston Red Sox 3-1 on Thursday night.

Schwarber has seven homers in his last seven games, the first Phillies player to hit at least that many in a similar span since current teammate Trea Turner in 2023. Schwarber's towering shot in this one cleared the visiting bullpen in right field and traveled an estimated 417 feet.

Vegas eliminates Ducks from playoffs

Mitch Marner scored a tremendous goal 62 seconds after the opening faceoff, Pavel Dorofeyev scored twice in the third period and the Vegas Golden Knights cruised into the Western Conference finals with a 5-1 victory over Anaheim Ducks in Game 6 of the second round Thursday night.

Juan Soto returned to the starting lineup Thursday for the injury-riddled New York Mets, who also learned Francisco Lindor has progressed in his recovery from a strained left calf.

Sedin twins become Canuck Presidents

The Vancouver Canucks are naming Daniel and Henrik Sedin as co-presidents and Ryan Johnson as general manager.

The Sedin twins are first and second on the Canucks' all-time scoring list and have been development coaches for the organization since 2022. The two were special assistants to the GM during the 2021-22 campaign.

Cal Raleigh out with oblique strain

The Seattle Mariners are placing catcher Cal Raleigh on the injured list due to a right oblique strain.

Raleigh, who's struggled as a hitter this season, will land on IL for the first time in his career.

Mets star Juan Soto fouled a ball off his right foot, forcing him from the New York Mets' game against the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night, and manager Carlos Mendoza said X-rays were negative.

Oilers fire head coach Knoblauch

The Edmonton Oilers have fired head coach Kris Knoblauch.

The Oilers crashed out in the first round against the Anaheim Ducks after losing in back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals under Knoblauch. Edmonton finished second in the weak Pacific Division and 14th in the NHL with 93 points, an eight-point drop from 2024-25.
