Xavier Worthy is doubtful for Sunday

The Kansas City Chiefs listed wide receiver Xavier Worthy as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles due to a shoulder injury.

Worthy dislocated his shoulder in the Chiefs' season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers after colliding with teammate Travis Kelce during Kansas City's opening drive. He was subsequently taken out of the game and did not return.

The 22-year-old was a limited participant in practice sessions Thursday and Friday after missing Wednesday's workout.

Ed Oliver dealing with ankle injury

Buffalo Bills defensive lineman Ed Oliver is dealing with an ankle injury that will likely sideline him multiple weeks, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter

Oliver has already been ruled out for Sunday's game against the New York Jets. The Bills have a short turnaround as they'll face the Miami Dolphins on Thursday Night Football in Week 3.

Head coach Sean McDermott said the defensive lineman injured the ankle during Wednesday's practice, according to ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg. Oliver was spotted with a boot on his leg Thursday and hasn't participated in on-field work since suffering the injury.

Fleury signs PTO with Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins signed franchise legend Marc-Andre Fleury to a professional tryout, the team announced Friday.

Fleury will play part of the Penguins' preseason home game versus the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sept. 27.

The 40-year-old goaltender retired in May following 21 NHL seasons, the first 13 of which were with Pittsburgh.

Donald Trump attends Yankees game for 9-11

President Donald Trump attended the New York Yankees game on Thursday night, drawing a mixed reaction from a raucous crowd while marking the 24th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Authorities installed security glass for the president outside the upper level box suite belonging to the Steinbrenner family, which owns the Yankees, on the third base side over the visiting Detroit Tigers dugout. Wearing a suit and tie, Trump sat next to Yankees team president Randy Levine and chatted with him throughout the game, though he sat by himself at other times.

During the national anthem, the president was shown on the stadium jumbotron and received boos from some in the crowd, cheers from others.

Jayden Reed broken collarbone

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed broke his collarbone in Thursday's 28-17 win over the Washington Commanders, head coach Matt LaFleur revealed postgame, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky.

The Packers hope Reed can return in six-to-eight weeks, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Reed suffered the injury in the first quarter, coming down hard on his shoulder on a deep ball from Jordan Love.

Jordan Love leads Packers to victory

Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers have delivered a strong opening statement to the rest of the NFL.

It helps that he's not facing the kind of pass rush that his teammates are bringing to opposing quarterbacks.

Love threw for 292 yards and two touchdowns and the Packers beat the Washington Commanders 27-18 on Thursday night. Couple that with their 27-13 victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday, and the Packers already have two wins over playoff teams from last season.

Connor Hellebuyck looking to dominate

Winnipeg Jets netminder Connor Hellebuyck has plenty on his plate heading into the 2025-26 season, but he insists he's not swept up in the sky-high expectations.

Hellebuyck is tasked with following up the best campaign of his career after he won MVP and the Vezina Trophy while leading the Jets to the league's top regular-season record. This year, he's got a chance to make his mark for the United States at the Olympics and bounce back from a disappointing showing in the playoffs.

"I'm kind of going into it as just another season, just another season," Hellebuyck told NHL.com's Dan Rosen on Wednesday. "We're continuing to build, but I don't want to bring expectations into it. I think expectations kill. I've seen it enough. We're a good team, but sometimes you don't win when you expect to win, and you win when you don't expect to win.

NCAA investigation for betting violations

The NCAA is investigating potential violations of sports betting rules involving 13 former men's basketball players who competed for six schools.

Cases include athletes formerly associated with Eastern Michigan, Temple, Arizona State, New Orleans, North Carolina A&T and Mississippi Valley. The schools are not under investigation and are not at risk of being penalized.

The NCAA's integrity monitoring program and network of sources flagged text messages and direct messages on social media platforms and revealed unusual betting activities around regular-season games. The violations include student-athletes betting on and against their own teams, sharing information with third parties for purposes of sports betting, manipulating scoring or outcomes and/or refusing to participate in the investigation.

The NCAA Committee on Infractions has resolved three similar cases, concluding that three men's basketball student-athletes who played for Fresno State and San Jose State violated the NCAA's rules against sports betting and manipulated game outcomes. In the case involving Fresno State and San Jose State, the enforcement investigation concluded that Mykell Robinson, Steven Vasquez and Jalen Weaver bet on one another's games and/or provided information that enabled others to do so last season. Two manipulated their performances to ensure winning bets. Their eligibility was permanently revoked.

Jason Collins treatment for brain cancer

Jason Collins, the NBA's first openly gay player who now serves as an ambassador for the league, is undergoing treatment for a brain tumor, his family said Thursday.

Collins announced he was gay in 2013, becoming the first publicly gay athlete to play in any of the four main North American sports leagues. He retired in 2014 after a 13-year career that included stops with the New Jersey Nets, Memphis, Minnesota, Atlanta, Boston, Washington and back to the Nets after they moved to Brooklyn.

Jacob deGrom set to face Mets as a Ranger

Jacob deGrom is excited to be going back to where his career began, the home stadium where he made 109 of his 245 starts in the big leagues and had back-to-back Cy Young Award-winning seasons with the New York Mets.

"It holds a special place in my heart," deGrom said. "I pitched a lot there, and Mets fans were always good to me. So taking the mound in front of that crowd was always a fun experience."

Now the lanky right-hander will find out if that holds true when pitching against them.
