The San Francisco Giants made an aggressive push to acquire Washington Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams but couldn't get a deal done, sources told The Athletic's Andrew Baggarly.
Had a trade been completed, Abrams would have played second base for the Giants, adds Baggarly.
San Francisco was open to adding the organization's No. 2 prospect, Josuar Gonzalez, in a deal, per Baggarly. Other players the Giants reportedly discussed with the Nationals included left-handers Carson Whisenhunt and Jacob Bresnahan, outfielder Bo Davidson, and shortstop Jhonny Level.
