Mammoth end Wild’s winning streak


Lawson Crouse scored twice, U.S. Olympian Clayton Keller had a goal and two assists, and the Utah Mammoth beat Minnesota 5-2 on Friday night to end the Wild's winning streak at six games.

Logan Cooley and Barrett Hayton also scored, and Karel Vejmelka made 21 saves to help the Mammoth rebound from a 4-2 home loss to NHL-leading Colorado on Wednesday night in their return from the Olympic break. Utah began the night in the first wild-card spot in the Western Conference.

U.S. Olympian Matt Boldy scored and assisted on Kirill Kaprizov's goal for Minnesota. Second behind Central Division-rival Colorado in the West, the Wild are 9-2-1 in their last 12. They beat the Avalanche 5-2 on Thursday night in Denver.

Alex Lyon push Sabres to defeat Panthers


Alex Lyon made 27 saves to beat his former Florida teammates for the second time this month, helping the Buffalo Sabres top the Panthers 3-2 on Friday night for their eighth victory in 11 games.

Lyon played for the Panthers during the 2022-23 season. He has won two of his past four starts — both against Florida.

Beck Malenstyn gave Buffalo a 2-1 lead with 8:22 left, sending a slap shot from the point through traffic and past Daniil Tarasov. Florida challenged for goalie interference after Buffalo defenseman Mattias Samuelsson's stick made contact with Tarasov's glove, but the goal stood.

Blake Snell probably not ready for opening day


The Los Angeles Dodgers do not expect two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell to be ready for Opening Day as he works on coming back from a shoulder injury that has lingered since last season.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Friday that the lefty has been throwing on flat ground, not the mound, and is making progress.

Snell was limited to 11 games last year in the regular season, going 5-4 with a 2.35 ERA. He was 3-2 in six postseason starts and helped the Dodgers repeat as World Series champions.

Powell out with groin strain


Miami Heat guard Norman Powell out week-to-week after an MRI revealed a Grade 1 right groin strain, the team announced Friday.

Powell aggravated the injury Thursday against the Philadelphia 76ers and exited after playing just 10 minutes. He was listed as questionable for the matchup with groin soreness before being cleared to play.

Anthony Edwards fined $25K


Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star Anthony Edwards was fined $25,000 by the NBA on Thursday for "throwing the game ball with force into the spectator stands," the league announced.

The incident occurred at halftime of Minnesota's victory at Portland on Tuesday. After a missed shot by the Trail Blazers as the buzzer sounded, Edwards casually grabbed the loose ball and hurled it the length of the floor toward the opposite basket. The NBA's announcement included video showed the ball appearing to hit an arena staff member in the head.

Edwards was fined a total of $420,000 by the league last season for eight different transgressions, mostly for profane language in postgame interviews. He was docked $35,000 for failing to leave the court in a timely manner and throwing the ball into the stands after his ejection from a game.

Detroit Red Wings offer trade for Tyler Myers


The Vancouver Canucks have a trade offer for Tyler Myers on the table from the Detroit Red Wings.

However, Myers has reportedly not yet signed off on the deal, as his contract contains a no-movement clause.

The Dallas Stars are also interested in Myers. Myers was born in Houston, Texas, but grew up in Calgary, Alberta.

Stanton dealing with major elbow issues


New York Yankees designated hitter Stanton continues to be affected by tennis elbow in both arms as the 2026 season approaches.

"I can't open a bottle," Stanton said Wednesday" I can't open a bag of chips ... a bag of anything. That's the way it is."

Stanton played in just 77 games in 2025, making his season debut in mid-June due to elbow injuries. He's dealt with the ailments since 2024.

Nikola Jokic scores 30 points to defeat Celtics


Nikola Jokic had 30 points and 12 rebounds on a rough shooting night to help the Denver Nuggets beat the Boston Celtics 103-84 on Wednesday.

Denver played most of the game without guard Jamal Murray. He left after logging 7:51 due to an illness and did not return.

Tim Hardaway Jr. added 14 points as the Nuggets bounced back from a 1-2 trip out of the All-Star break, which included a loss at Golden State on Sunday. They kept pace with Houston in the tight Western Conference standings. Denver is percentage points behind the Rockets for third place.

Nikita Kucherov scores 30th goal of season


Nikita Kucherov scored to give him his ninth 30-goal season and added two assists for 701 in his career and the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2 on Wednesday night for their sixth straight victory.

Brayden Point had two goals and an assist, Gage Goncalves had a goal and two assists and Andrei Vasilevskiy made 32 saves for the Lightning, who are 20-1-1 in their past 22 games. Vasilevskiy is 17-0-1 since Dec. 20.

Joel Quenneville reaches 1,000 wins


Joel Quenneville became the second coach in NHL history to win 1,000 games with the Anaheim Ducks' 6-5 comeback victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night.

Quenneville joined Scotty Bowman in an exclusive hockey club with a milestone win in the Ducks' first game back from the Olympic break.

Cutter Gauthier scored the tiebreaking goal with 1:14 to play for the Ducks, who erased a pair of two-goal deficits. Leo Carlsson had a goal and two assists in his first appearance since Jan. 10 for the Ducks, who have won six straight home games and 10 of 12 overall to leapfrog the Oilers into second place in the Pacific Division.

Blue Jays sign Max Scherzer to 1 Year


The Toronto Blue Jays are re-signing veteran starter Max Scherzer to a one-year pact with a $3-million base salary that is worth up to $10 million in incentives.

Scherzer posted a 5.19 ERA in 17 starts for the Blue Jays last season. He showed flashes of previous form late in the campaign when he authored a 3.34 ERA in six August starts.

The 41-year-old made three outings in Toronto's postseason run to the World Series, including starts in Game 3 and Game 7 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Scherzer had a 3.77 ERA in 14 1/3 playoff innings.

CC Sabathia will retire his number in New York


CC Sabathia is officially joining the pantheon of New York Yankees legends.

The Yankees announced Wednesday that they'll retire the Hall of Fame left-hander's No. 52 jersey in a ceremony before their Sept. 26 game against the Baltimore Orioles. In addition, Sabathia will receive a plaque in Yankee Stadium's Monument Park.


Paul Skenes battles with ABS system


National League Cy Young Award winner Paul Skenes lost four strikes to challenges in his first spring training start.

Skenes struck out four and walked four over 2 1/3 innings for Pittsburgh on Wednesday against the Atlanta Braves, who were 4 for 4 against the right-hander on challenges to get called strikes overturned to balls.

The 53-pitch outing is expected to be the only one for Skenes before he joins the U.S. for the World Baseball Classic. He allowed one hit and one run while facing 12 batters. He is going into his third season with the Pirates.

Paul Skenes is ready for WBC


Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes confirmed Tuesday that he's ready and able to make multiple starts for the U.S. during March's tournament. Assuming the Americans advance out of their group, Skenes would have the chance to start two games - one in pool play and one knockout game.

Sidney Crosby out 4 weeks with lower body injury


Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has been placed on injured reserve and will be sidelined for a minimum of four weeks due to a lower-body injury sustained while representing Canada at the Olympics, the team announced Wednesday.

Crosby suffered the injury against Czechia in the quarterfinals and missed his country's next two games, including Canada's gold-medal loss to the United States in overtime.

He notched six points in four contests in Milan Cortina. Canada's runner-up finish marked Crosby's first international best-on-best appearance that didn't yield a championship.

Rob Pelinka will remain as Lakers GM


Los Angeles Lakers president of business operations Lon Rosen confirmed that Rob Pelinka will remain in his role as general manager and president of basketball operations.

Rosen added that Los Angeles Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman and special advisor Farhan Zaidi will continue to be part of the Lakers' braintrust after the team brought in the two executives several months ago.

Kadri wants to be traded


Calgary Flames forward Nazem Kadri wants to be traded, TSN's Darren Dreger reported.

Kadri has 10 goals and 39 points in 56 games this season to lead the Flames in scoring. He's signed through the 2028-29 campaign at a $7-million cap hit and has a 13-team no-trade list.

The 35-year-old center tallied a career-high 35 goals last season and has been the Flames' top scorer in each of the past two years.

Rantanen out with lower body injury


Dallas Stars forward Mikko Rantanen will miss a minimum of two weeks with the lower-body injury he suffered at the Olympics, head coach Glen Gulutzan told reporters.

While Rantanen could miss more than two weeks, Gulutzan did confirm he'll be back before the end of the season.

Rantanen didn't suit up in Finland's bronze-medal game victory over Slovakia. He notched two goals and four assists in five contests in the tournament.

Sharp out 4-6 weeks with calf strain


Portland Trail Blazers guard Shaedon Sharpe will miss another four-to-six weeks at least as he continues to receive treatment for a left calf strain, the team announced Tuesday.

Sharpe also underwent follow-up imaging, which revealed a stress reaction in his left fibula.

The 22-year-old suffered the calf injury Feb. 6 against the Memphis Grizzlies. He played 14 minutes before being ruled out at halftime.

Chris Sale signs 1 Year $27M contract


Chris Sale will no longer hit the free-agent market at the end of the 2026 season. 

The left-hander and the Atlanta Braves agreed to a one-year, $27-million extension Tuesday. The deal includes a $30-million club option for 2028.

Sale's career has been rejuvenated since the Boston Red Sox traded him to Atlanta prior to the 2024 campaign. He owns a 2.46 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 390 strikeouts across 303 1/3 innings over the last two seasons. He won the National League Cy Young Award in 2024 and has twice been an All-Star with the Braves.

Russell Westbrook leads Kings


Russsell Westbrook scored 25 points and Precious Achiuwa had 22 points and 12 rebounds as the Sacramento Kings snapped a 16-game losing streak — the longest in franchise history — with a 123-114 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night.

DeMar DeRozan and Daeqwon Plowden finished with 20 points each, with Plowden scoring 10 in the fourth quarter. Sacramento has the NBA's worst record and hadn't won since beating Washington on Jan. 16.

Javon Smalls led Memphis with 21 points and nine assists. Olivier-Maxence Prosper had 17 points and GG Jackson added 16 points.

Maxx Crosby to remain with Raiders


Las Vegas Raiders general manager John Spytek expects star pass-rusher Maxx Crosby will still be on the team when Week 1 rolls around.

"I do, yes," Spytek told reporters at the NFL combine Tuesday when asked if he anticipates Crosby will be in a Raiders uniform when the season begins.

He added, "Maxx is an elite player, and I've been very up-front from the start when I got here that we're in the business of having really good players on the team and we need a lot more of them."

Kevin Durant wants to play 2028 Olympics


Kevin Durant isn't calling time on his international career just yet.

The Houston Rockets star revealed that he hopes to represent the United States at the Olympics for a fifth time when Los Angeles hosts the Summer Games in 2028.

"Hell yeah, I want to play," Durant said recently. "I would love to, but I've got to stay on top of my game.

Lindsey Vonn surgery prevented leg amputation


American skier Lindsey Vonn says she nearly lost her left leg following a frightening crash in the women's downhill at the Milan Cortina Olympics.

Vonn revealed on Monday that her injuries went far beyond the complex tibia fracture in the leg she initially hurt after clipping a gate and sailing off course just 13 seconds into her run on Feb. 8.

The 41-year-old Vonn said the trauma from the crash led to compartment syndrome in her leg. Compartment syndrome involves excessive pressure building up inside a muscle, either from bleeding or swelling. High pressure restricts blood flow and can lead to permanent injury if not treated quickly.

Honus Wagner card discovered in family home


A T206 Honus Wagner baseball card discovered in a family collection sold for $5.124 million through Goldin Auctions

The card belonged to Douglas and Dennis Shields, whose grandfather collected trading cards in the early 1900s. 

The card, which received a grade of one from Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA), became the third-most expensive copy of a T206 Honus Wagner ever sold. Other copies of the card sold for $6.606 million in 2021 and $7.25 million in 2022.

LeBron James 1st Player to 43,000 points


LeBron James became the first player in NBA history to reach 43,000 career regular-season points.

The Los Angeles Lakers superstar hit the milestone on a layup midway through the third quarter of Sunday's 111-89 defeat to the Boston Celtics.

Connor McDavid named tournament MVP


Canada's star forward Connor McDavid was named Most Valuable Player of the men's Olympic hockey tournament in Milan Cortina, the IIHF announced Sunday, following the United States' gold-medal triumph over Canada.

McDavid tallied 13 points in six games to lead the tournament in scoring. It's the most points an NHL player has ever scored at the Olympics.

USA wins Gold in men’s hockey


The United States beat Canada 2-1 in overtime in the Olympic men's hockey gold-medal game Sunday.

Bo Bichette continues to make errors at Third


New York Mets third baseman Bichette knows there will be an adjustment period as he learns to play a new position.

Bichette, who joined the Mets on a three-year, $126-million contract during the offseason, made his first spring start Saturday at the hot corner after playing shortstop with the Toronto Blue Jays for the first seven years of his career.

The two-time All-Star committed an error against the Miami Marlins in the fourth inning with an errant throw.

Sidney Crosby out for Gold medal game


Canada captain Crosby won't suit up for Sunday's gold-medal game against the United States due to the injury he sustained in the quarterfinal.

Crosby missed Canada's semifinal win over Finland on Friday after being injured in Wednesday's contest and was labeled a game-time decision for the tournament finale. Head coach Jon Cooper said Saturday that Crosby wouldn't dress for the matchup if he couldn't make an impact.

Crosby notched six points in four games before the injury. He traveled to Milan in search of his third Olympic gold medal, having previously helped Canada win in 2010 and 2014. Crosby and teammate Doughty would be the first NHLers to capture three gold medals if Canada defeats the USA.

Canada wins Gold in men’s curling


Brad Jacobs is back on the top step of the podium.

Jacobs and his Canadian teammates defeated Great Britain - the world's top-ranked rink comprised of an all-Scottish quartet - to claim gold at the Milan Cortina Olympics on Saturday.

The win gives Canada its first gold medal in men's curling since Jacobs' triumph, also over Great Britain, in the 2014 Olympic final in Sochi.

Dillon Brooks out with broken hand


Phoenix Suns guard Dillon Brooks has a broken left hand.

The Suns don't have a timetable yet for how long Brooks will be out, according to Charania.

Brooks exited Saturday's win over the Orlando Magic in the first quarter because of the injury. Phoenix won the game in double-overtime on a buzzer-beater.

Pete Alonso homered in his spring training debut for the Baltimore Orioles, providing the only runs in a 2-0 exhibition victory over the New York Yankees on Friday.

In his third plate appearance in a big-league uniform other than the New York Mets, Alonso pulled a first-pitch curveball over the fence in left-center field against right-hander Bradley Hanner in the sixth inning.

Hunter out with eye surgery


Sacramento Kings forward Hunter is out at least eight weeks after undergoing eye surgery Friday, the team announced.

The 28-year-old sustained the injury Feb. 6 against the Los Angeles Clippers and was later diagnosed with a retinal detachment in his left eye.

Hunter will miss the rest of the season. He'd be the third Kings player to be shut down for the campaign over the past week.

USA defeats Slovakia


The United States routed Slovakia 6-2 on Friday to advance to the gold-medal game at the Milan Cortina Olympics, where it will face Canada.

The rivals are now set to collide in the Olympic men's hockey final for the first time since 2010. Canada is 2-0 against the U.S. in gold-medal games all time, with triumphs in 2002 and 2010.

Canada beat the United States 3-2 in overtime in the 4 Nations Face-Off championship game in 2025. The event was the first best-on-best tournament featuring NHL players since the 2014 Olympics.

Stephen Curry remains out of action


Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry underwent another MRI on his injured right knee and the results came back clean.

He will be re-evaluated in 10 days and will miss at least five more games, the team announced Thursday.

Curry was diagnosed with patellofemoral pain syndrome or "runner's knee." He reportedly continues to deal with persistent pain and swelling, according to Slater.

Canada beats Finland


Canada erased a 2-0 deficit against Finland en route to a dramatic 3-2 win that booked the tournament favourite a spot in the men's hockey gold-medal game at the Milan Cortina Olympics.

Nathan MacKinnon scored the deciding goal on the power play with 35 seconds remaining in regulation after Shea Theodor knotted the contest midway through the third period.

Brewers sign Pat Murphy to 3 years


The Milwaukee Brewers signed manager Pat Murphy to a new three-year deal with a club option for 2029.

Murphy's reported deal reworks the final year of the manager's previous contract and adds two more years

Sidney Crosby lower body injury


Canada captain Sidney Crosby is considered day-to-day and is "by no means ruled out" for the rest of the Olympics, head coach Jon Cooper said Thursday.

Crosby sustained an apparent lower-body injury after a pair of hits in the quarterfinals against Czechia. He left the game in the second period and didn't return.

"We're not going to put anyone in harm's way," Cooper said, according to Kaplan. "But if he can play, he's definitely going to. We'll know more in ... 24 hours."

Canada wins in OT


Take a deep breath, Canada: The men's hockey team is moving on.

Mitch Marner scored in the Olympic quarterfinals against Czechia on Wednesday to keep Canada's gold-medal hopes alive with a 4-3 win.

Canada trailed 2-1 after the first period and 3-2 midway through the third but stormed back. Nick Suzuki sent the matchup to overtime at the 16:33 mark of the final frame. Marner then dangled through three Czech skaters before roofing a backhand top corner 1:22 into OT.

Seattle Seahawks go up for sale


The Seattle Seahawks are going up for sale in accordance with the wishes of late team owner Paul Allen.

Allen's estate announced Wednesday that it has begun the process of selling the team, which is just coming off its second Super Bowl victory in franchise history.

Investment bank Allen & Company and law firm Latham & Watkins will lead the sales process, which is estimated to continue through the offseason. NFL owners must then ratify a final purchase agreement.

Franz Wagner out with ankle sprain


Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner will be out for an indefinite period due to a high left ankle sprain, the team announced.

The 24-year-old requires more time to rehabilitate the lingering injury, according to the Magic. He will be re-evaluated in three weeks.

Wagner came off the bench in Orlando's last two games - both against the Milwaukee Bucks - but was on a strict minutes restriction. He'd missed nine straight contests and 25 of the Magic's last 27 games before appearing in both matchups before the All-Star break.

Kyrie Irving out with torn ACL


Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving will not return this season from the torn ACL he suffered in March 2025, the team confirmed Wednesday.

The Mavericks will allow for Irving to continue recovering from surgery with the goal of returning for the 2026-27 campaign.

Slovakia beats Germany in quarterfinals


Dalibor Dvorsky turned in another brilliant performance at the Olympics, and Slovakia will again play for a medal in men's hockey.

Dvorsky had a goal and an assist, fellow NHL forward Pavol Regenda scored twice as part of his three-point game, and Slovakia dominated Germany 6-2.

Slovakia got an injury scare in the second period when Slafkovsky went head-first into the boards and was slow to get up. A trainer applied an ice pack to the back of Slafkovsky's neck, and the 21-year-old got up to celebrate a goal scored while he was getting medical attention.

Czechia advances to Quarter Final


David Kampf and Roman Cervenka scored 69 seconds apart in the second period, and Czechia beat Denmark 3-2 on Tuesday to advance to a quarterfinal showdown with Canada.

Czechia gets a second shot at the tournament favorite after losing to Canada 5-0 last week in their opener. They play on Wednesday.

Martin Necas also scored for the Czechs in a busy second period when the Colorado Avalanche forward one-timed a slap shot past goalie Frederik Andersen on a power play to open the scoring.

Denmark tied it at 1-1 on Alexander True's goal at 29:02, but Kampf quickly put the Czechs back in front, and Cervenka's goal 69 seconds later made it 3-1.

Nick Olesen's power-play goal closed the gap before the end of the second, but Czechia held on.

Pablo Lopez season ending torn UCL


Minnesota Twins right-hander Pablo Lopez could be finished playing in 2026 before the season has even begun.

López sustained a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow that's likely to require surgery, general manager Jeremy Zoll revealed Tuesday.

López will seek a second opinion in the coming days, according to Hayes. However, the tear is considered to be significant, meaning season-ending surgery is "very much on the table," Zoll said.

Tony Clark intending to resign from MLBPA


Tony Clark intends to resign as head of the Major League Baseball Players Association, a person familiar with union's deliberations said Tuesday.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because his decision, first reported by ESPN, had not been announced. The person said an announcement was likely later Tuesday.

Sharks terminate Jeff Skinner contract


The San Jose Sharks placed forward Jeff Skinner on waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract.

Skinner will be free to sign with any team once he clears waivers and the termination is complete.

The Sharks signed Skinner to a one-year, $3-million contract as a free agent in the summer, but he's failed to produce as expected, tallying six goals and seven assists in 32 games.

Ronnie Hickman gets jumped in hotel lobby


Cleveland Browns safety Ronnie Hickman was treated for minor injuries and released, the team said on Monday after New York police received reports that he was jumped by four men in a hotel lobby. 

The Browns said Hickman, 24, was at home resting with his family. There have been no arrests and an investigation continues, according to a statement from the New York Police Department.

Authorities said they responded to a 911 call at 4:35 a.m. Monday reporting an assault in a hotel lobby.
