A bloodied Ward immediately walked over to the Angels' bullpen, where his face was covered with towels by his teammates.

Athletic trainers from both teams tended to the injured outfielder before he left the field.

Angels manager Ray Montgomery said Ward was taken in an ambulance to the hospital, where he'll receive stitches to close a cut above his right eye and undergo further evaluation.

Chapman signs 1 Year Extension with Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox and left-handed closer Aroldis Chapman agreed to a one-year, $13.3-million extension for the 2026 season, sources told MassLive's Chris Cotillo.

The deal reportedly also includes a vesting option for the 2027 campaign based on innings. Chapman can earn $26 million over the two seasons if the option vests, Cotillo adds.

Chapman, 37, owns a 1.04 ERA with 74 strikeouts in 52 innings for the Red Sox after signing a one-year, $10.75-million deal in December. His 26 saves rank fifth in the American League, while his 2.2 fWAR is tied for the highest among qualified MLB relievers.

The eight-time All-Star hasn't allowed a hit since July 23 and has given up just one earned run in the second half of the season.

Mackenzie Gore lands on 15 Day Injured List

The Washington Nationals placed left-hander MacKenzie Gore on the 15-day injured list on Saturday with left shoulder inflammation.

Interim manager Miguel Cairo said Gore "felt something" in his last start. Cairo said an MRI revealed a little shoulder inflammation.

Xander Bogaerts lands on injured reserve

The San Diego Padres placed shortstop Xander Bogaerts on the 10-day injured list Friday with a non-displaced fracture in his left foot.

Bogaerts sustained the injury in Wednesday's game against Seattle when he fouled a ball off his foot. He stayed in that game, but eventually had imaging that revealed a fracture.

"Not great news," Padres manager Mike Shildt said before Friday's game against Minnesota. "Effectively, it's a fracture that's going to require him being in a boot for a week and then evaluation from there."

Payton Tolle throws a gem in MLB debut

Red Sox left-hander Payton Tolle gave his head a shake and let out a big breath, as if to make sure it was all real.

"Chills. A lot of chills," he said after taking a one-hit shutout into the sixth inning in his major league debut against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night. "It was incredible. I came off the mound after the first and I couldn't feel my feet.

"It was just the greatest experience of my life. It was the greatest atmosphere. I was just proud of it. I'll look back on this day for a long time. Just think about this moment."

Micah Parsons traded to Packers

Micah Parsons is eager to once again let his play do the talking one day after the Green Bay Packers acquired him in a blockbuster deal.

Parsons doesn't believe the back issue that kept him from practicing with the Dallas Cowboys prior to Thursday's trade will keep him off the field to start the season.

"I think physically, I'm great. I can contribute a lot. We already talked about how we can ramp things up," Parsons told media Friday, according to team reporter Weston Hodkiewicz. "They didn't give up what they gave up for me to sit on the sidelines. ... I'm gonna give it my all."

Parsons traded to Packers

The Dallas Cowboys traded pass-rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, the team announced Thursday.

The Packers will reward Parsons with a record four-year, $188-million contract that includes $136 million guaranteed, according to Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, and Jane Slater of NFL Network. Parsons' new $47-million average annual salary is now the highest in NFL history for a non-quarterback.

In exchange for Parsons, the Cowboys receive a 2026 first-round pick, a 2027 first-round selection, and three-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Kenny Clark from the Packers.

Parsons, widely considered one of the NFL's premier defenders, requested a trade Aug. 1 amid stalled negotiations with the Cowboys. Team owner Jerry Jones originally said he wouldn't trade his top defensive player. However, they weren't able to reach an agreement on an extension, triggering a contract saga involving Jones, Parsons, and the player's agent.

Max Strus sidelined 3-4 months

Cleveland Cavaliers forward Max Strus is expected to miss three-to-four months after undergoing surgery to repair a Jones fracture in his left foot, the team announced Tuesday.

The 29-year-old recently sustained the injury during offseason training.

Strus would miss at least 19 games under the timeline provided by the club.

Strus' absence could shift De'Andre Hunter into the starting lineup and open up more minutes for sharpshooter Sam Merrill and second-year guard Jaylon Tysonoff the bench.

Cleveland inked Strus to a four–year, $63-million contract in 2023 as part of a sign-and-trade deal involving the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs.

Strus was limited to just 50 appearances last season but had a solid playoff showing, averaging 11.7 points and shooting 38.8% from deep.

According to an arrest affidavit, Cutler offered the other driver $2,000 to not call the police and to let him drive away.

Cutler refused a field sobriety test and was taken to a hospital, where a blood sample was obtained after getting a search warrant. Police said they also found two firearms in the car, including a loaded pistol.

Rashee Rice suspended 6 Games!

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has been suspended six games without pay for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, the league announced Wednesday.

The suspension goes into effect at the start of the 2025 season, making Rice eligible to return for Kansas City's Week 7 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Rice is accepting the suspension, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The NFL initially wanted a 10-12 game ban before Rice's representation battled for a shorter suspension, Pelisseroadds.

The suspension stems from Rice and another speeding driver causing a chain-reaction car crash that injured multiple people in Dallas in 2024. Rice, who prosecutors said fled on foot after the crash and didn't check on the people in the other vehicles, pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges of collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years of deferred probation.

Texas Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi is likely out for the remainder of the season due to a rotator cuff strain, president of baseball operations Chris Young announced Tuesday, according to Abby Jones of DLLS Sports.

The 35-year-old was in the midst of a career year, authoring the best ERA (1.73) among major-league starters with at least 130 innings pitched, according to FanGraphs. He also owns an 11-3 record with a 2.78 FIP and 0.85 WHIP.

Luzardo ejected after swearing at umpire

Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Jesús Luzardo was ejected from Tuesday's game against the New York Mets as he walked off the mound in the fifth inning.

Luzardo was removed from the contest by manager Rob Thomson before directing his displeasure at home plate umpire Willie Traynor while walking toward the dugout.

The southpaw threw two close pitches to Starling Marte in an at-bat that resulted in a walk prior to his ejection.

"I'm not really an emotional guy," Luzardo said after the game, according to Anthony SanFilippo of On Pattison

"Pretty calm out there for the most part, just when I think something's not fair, I'll make sure to stick up for it."

The Phillies were ahead 2-1 when Luzardo exited the game. The Mets wound up scoring five runs in the fifth, with four of the runs being charged to the left-hander. New York ended up winning the game 6-5.

The Phillies lead the Mets by five games in the NL East after they were also clobbered by their division rival 13-3 in the series opener.

The Vikings and the 35-year-old receiver are also finalizing a revised contract, which will mark the completion of the trade, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Washington, at 73 the oldest manager in the majors, was last in the dugout for a 7-3 loss to the New York Yankees on June 19. The following day, the team said Washington was out indefinitely because of health issues after experiencing shortness of breath and appearing fatigued toward the end of that four-game series in New York.

Christiano Ronaldo makes history

Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to score 100 competitive goals for four different clubs on Saturday, though Al-Nassr lost to Al-Ahli in a penalty shootout after the Saudi Super Cup final ended 2-2.

The first half strike at Hong Kong Stadium took the 40-year-old to his century for the Saudi Arabian club, which he joined in Dec. 2022.

It adds to his 450 goals for Real Madrid, 145 for Manchester United and 101 for Juventus and moves Ronaldo ahead of the three players who had scored 100 times for three clubs: Isidro Langara, who played in Spain from 1930 to 1948, as well as Brazilian stars Romario and Neymar.

Derrick Harmon out with MCL sprain

Pittsburgh Steelers' first-round pick Derrick Harmon is expected to be sidelined for about a month with an MCL sprain, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The injury makes the defensive tackle a candidate to begin the season on injured reserve, Rapoport adds.

Harmon suffered the injury during the team's final preseason game against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night. He was carted to the locker room after his knee twisted awkwardly on a pass-rush snap. However, he later returned to the sideline in street clothes.

Baltimore Orioles sign Samuel Basallo

The Baltimore Orioles and top catching prospect Samuel Basallo are finalizing an eight-year, $67-million contract extension, sources told Jeff Passan of ESPN.

Basallo's deal, which will be the largest pre-arbitration extension for a catcher, will start next season and can max out at $88.5 million with performance bonuses and escalators, according to Passan.

The pact also includes a 2034 option, reports Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

The 21-year-old has played in just four games after making his MLB debut Sunday. He's gone 4-for-14 with five RBIs since getting promoted but hit 23 homers with 67 RBIs and a .966 OPS over 76 contests in Triple-A this season.

Basallo's reported deal is also interesting considering the Orioles already have Adley Rutschman as their starting catcher. The 27-year-old two-time All-Star has struggled during an injury-plagued 2025 campaign but is arbitration-eligible through 2027.

Carolina Panthers sign Taylor Moton

The worst part: White is simply hoping Clark returns for some of her team's last nine regular-season games. Indiana also lost three other key players with season-ending injuries over the last two weeks.

Demarcus Robinson violated substance abuse policy

San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said receiver Demarcus Robinson is facing a three-game suspension to start the season for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Shanahan said Wednesday on the team's flagship radio station KNBR that Robinson has been suspended pending an appeal after he pleaded no contest last month to a misdemeanor DUI charge. San Francisco opens the season with games at Seattle and New Orleans followed by a home game against Arizona.

The NFL declined to comment on the suspension.

Robinson said last week that he was "anxious" waiting to hear the final verdict from the NFL.

"Just waiting on the outcome to see what happens with that," Robinson said. "I really don't know the timeframe. Waiting to hear from them, obviously. It's all up to whatever the league says."
