Nathan Eovaldi out with rotator cuff injury

Texas Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi is likely out for the remainder of the season due to a rotator cuff strain, president of baseball operations Chris Young announced Tuesday, according to Abby Jones of DLLS Sports.

Eovaldi's loss is a major blow to the playoff chances of the Rangers, who enter Tuesday 5.5 games behind the Seattle Mariners for the final AL wild-card spot.

The 35-year-old was in the midst of a career year, authoring the best ERA (1.73) among major-league starters with at least 130 innings pitched, according to FanGraphs. He also owns an 11-3 record with a 2.78 FIP and 0.85 WHIP.
