Calgary Flames sign Mikael Backlund

The Calgary Flames signed captain Mikael Backlund to a two-year contract extension with a $3.25-million annual cap hit, the team announced Wednesday.

Backlund tallied 15 goals and 32 points in 76 games last season. His new deal includes a full no-trade clause that becomes a 10-team no-trade clause on Jan. 1, 2028, according to PuckPedia.

The 36-year-old forward was set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer. He's coming off a two-year pact signed in September 2023 that had a $4.5-million annual cap hit.
